WFU Hoops: '21-'22 Roster Construction Thread: +LaRavia/Taylor/Walton/Monsanto/Williams/Sy/Marsh

He's a grad student. That's not a "fuck right off and just leave" situation. That's an "OK, go ahead and live your life. Let me know if you need any help" situation.

Oof...I wasn't even considering that. Good point lol.

Yeah, this is a huge decision for Ian and his future. I’m sure Forbes and the staff are helping him through his decision. In other words, Forbes won’t force Ian’s hand to rush a decision.

The only thing that would he huge for Dubose's return is him getting an advanced degree.

Came here to post that. Looks pretty efficient, especially this season. Worth a call for sure.

Are you saying you don't want DuBose back?

If Forbes felt that way, DuBose would already be gone, like the others.

I still wonder if/when we'll get color on Jalen Johnson & Ian Dubose. At this point, I don't expect either of them back... But wouldn't be against having them on the roster.

At least Jonah Antonio posted about signing with an agent.

There really isn't any downside for having Johnson and Dubose back. They don't count against the scholarship or roster limit, and they're veteran guys to can help our freshman get adjusted.

Getting Dubose back would be really big, IMO. There's no way we saw his best basketball this year since he was dealing with COVID and missed so much time. He'd be a great "recruiting win" for Forbes. That said, if it's best for Dubose to move on, I know he will make the right move.

There are a lot of mid major kids out there inbetween 6-7 and 6-11 that had decent numbers that could add some size to the team down low

There's likely a huge difference between the quality of combo guard we can get out of the portal knowing a starting spot might be open because DuBose is leaving versus him staying. Not sure it's a "you get one weekend" thing but we definitely need to know sooner rather than later. There's absolutely a downside should he drag his feet and wait to inform the staff he's out.

If we're trying to build a program giving 20+ mpg to someone who isn't going to be back and is redundant, is not a priority. If we don't get a big or two who can immediately and significantly contribute, next year will be another very long year regardless of who returns.

If he comes back OK. If he doesn't, I won't be bothered.

Pedro Castro from Houston Baptist is transferring. Shoots the three ball at a 50% clip and is a good rebounder for a guard. Maybe Dubose can help out there. Obviously Houston Baptist is a poor basketball team but his stats and size line up with what we are looking for.

Pedro also shoots 88% from the charity stripe and gets a lot of steals and blocks. and his name is Pedro which would go wondrous with Phlandrous, IMO.

If all you want are names, then how about:

Good teams have a lot of talent, including underclassmen and veterans. It's fair to say that managing the minutes for our incoming freshmen isn't a bad thing and won't delay their success. Having guys like Dubose to take some pressure off of the young guys is what every good school has.

I disagree that you wouldn't have a guy like Dubose take 20 minutes a game while the rest of the guys are getting up to speed with the college game.

If we want to win more games next year, then we want Dubose back.

Why would you sat that? People here remember a TO or missed shot by players they don't like, but Dubose shit the bed in four of our last five games as well as choking at the end of the F$U game are all forgotten. It would be OK to get him back, but, unless we can't find any decent players, he's not going to impact the outcome of next year's team.

We need to find at least one big (preferably two) and two shooters.

Dude....come on...Dubose was the best player on the court for us for a few games. The coaches want him back and with good reason. Good teams have a couple old-timers like Dubose.

I hope McCray comes in and is Jeff Teague 2.0 and Hildreth is Luka 2.0, but it will most likely take our young guys some time to be able to compete at a high level. Dubose has proven enough that, when healthy, he can compete at a high enough level in the ACC to carve out solid minutes.
