CT Brasky #2: Back when the CT was real

Yo CT where should we take our 8 month old for his first beach trip in May/June? My wife wants to go down for a long weekend, I've been looking at AirBnb's on Wrightsville for the last 30 mins and I'm not feeling it. We're in Winston, heading to Charleston in July for a bigger family trip, so we want to go somewhere closer and more laid back for this "quick trip".

Basically what I'm asking is are there any other NC beaches worth going to for two nights? All I require is a decent beach, and a few outdoor restaurants/bars in walking distance.

I'm still open to Wrightsville but every place under $300/night seems like a sketchy old motel or has shitty reviews.

I cop to close-mindedness and some knight-style machismo on this, but that architecture is unforgivable

also why do they have to call it "sports" and not just video games?

Fucking garbage truck killed my old, old dog this morning. And because life is a surreal nightmare, I had to read the Of Mice and Men chapter where they shoot Candy's dog in first period. And now, while I am on hold to yell at the garbage company, their hold music Celebrate Good Times blared at full volume.

I'm with you bro. I refuse to accept eSports as a real competition. Of course i'm the guy who would rather create a 15 year dynasty/franchise/whatever than play anybody online. Sports video games are best played anti-socially.
 
Part of Wright brothers’ 1st airplane on NASA’s Mars chopper

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A piece of the Wright brothers’ first airplane is on Mars.

NASA’s experimental Martian helicopter holds a small swatch of fabric from the 1903 Wright Flyer, the space agency revealed Tuesday. The helicopter, named Ingenuity, hitched a ride to the red planet with the Perseverance rover, arriving last month.

Ingenuity will attempt the first powered, controlled flight on another planet no sooner than April 8. It will mark a “Wright brothers’ moment,” noted Bobby Braun, director for planetary science at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio, the Wrights’ hometown, donated the postage-size piece of muslin from the plane’s bottom left wing, at NASA’s request.

The swatch made the 300 million-mile journey to Mars with the blessing of the Wright brothers’ great-grandniece and great-grandnephew, said park curator Steve Lucht.

“Wilbur and Orville Wright would be pleased to know that a little piece of their 1903 Wright Flyer I, the machine that launched the Space Age by barely one quarter of a mile, is going to soar into history again on Mars!” Amanda Wright Lane and Stephen Wright said in a statement provided by the park.

He had a good run since he just randomly showed up on our porch about 12 years ago, and he was probably 4 or 5 then, so it's not like he had another decade in him, but he still had a pretty damn good quality of life and I definitely hoped he could've had a more humane end than death by garbage truck. He was a good dog. Thanks for the condolences. I'm most concerned right now about how to explain it to the kids.
 
without consulting a dictionary its probably because there are leagues of teams of players that participate in different (local/regional/international) competitions guided by a clear set of rules for the activity

video games are just the everyday activity

you wouldn't call bridge or quiz bowl or debate a sport and they meet that criteria

meaning of words adapt, sure, but at this time I have a hard time shaking the idea that "sports" requires some element of physicality and I'm not convinced that "e-sports" meet my undefined threshold


it doesn't really matter, call it what you want and I genuinely don't care when I step back from it all, but I do admit to a swelling of conservative energy around the claim that they are sports
 
Brasky - it’s been a while since I’ve been but I always enjoyed Carolina Beach. Probably mostly because of Britt’s Donuts but that’s ok.
 
there are organized leagues of teams of bridge players who travel to different places to play bridge in organized competitions?

if so that's sport to me. even more so if people are showing up and paying money to watch - there's certainly an economic element to this organization
