Totally Unofficial 2021/22 Premier League Thread (NWT)

You're blind to Bruno DV7

He is absolutely in the Richarlison/Son shithouse category. Dude embellishes contact all the time and whines to the officials after ever single call.

Here's a 25 second video comp of his diving that I found after two secs of googling:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2yOogp6ExQ
And 2nd incident. Another clear foul.

Konsa completely done by Brunos skill

Did you even watch this before posting or just Google "Bruno ridiculous dives" and copy/paste in the link?

what was the persuasive argument? that he's a good dude off the field?

two of wakephan09's favs OAT are both t-4th in most red cards in the prem all time, noble and parker, MAKES U WONDER

I couldn't point to any one argument, but that helps, plus the whole LEADERSHIP/CHARACTER thing. If we're being honest I also think the fact that he doesn't start and play regularly helps a lot. I have a short memory and the last 5-10 games I have seen him actually play in I couldn't pick any dirty tackles out (and I 100% would have been looking for evidence).

the nuance for me is i don't think he goes into any games looking to hurt people, i just think he's really quick to go to ground, at times unnecessarily for tackles, and he's kinda slow and unskilled and clumsy so sometimes those are gonna end up being bad tackles

sometimes they come off really sweet though

Are cherry-picked images good evidence for fouls now?

wow very natural arm movement

That's not a bad take. The funny thing is that this is exactly how I view Lamela in terms of being actually dangerous. Often out of position but a total try-hard that will go to ground to try and make up for it every time. He's still hunting for that first straight red though.

well the difference there being that lamela is fast and skilled

As someone who'd played on two adult league soccer teams with Wakephan he loves Parker and Noble because he wants to be a technically sound holding mid with a little bite. However, everyone knows that's he a wide midfielder. You can't run XC your whole life and not play on the wing in adult soccer. Those are the rules. Sorry dude.

Plus on the mornings that I wasn't violently hungover, your boy was a better option at the #6. I'm just a little nastier and that's what you want in adult league. Although I'm happy to play CB too. Just no outside back please, I had a couple of beers last night and I cannot run that much today.

Damn I miss adult league soccer. I actually joined a team here in the WS adult league last Spring and we played one preseason game and then COVID hit. Hoping to get back out there in the fall. Gotta get back into shape though.

DV7 do they still play pickup at Whitaker? I went once two years ago and it was alright.

Lol I don't think Lamela is that fast, particularly since his hip surgery. His skills come down to being extremely one-footed (to the point that he will literally perfect the Rabona so he doesn't have to take shots w/his weak foot), which is very limiting on the ball and leads to lots of bad first touches. He can be counted on to always give a shit at least (much like Noble!)

Lol I am way too lazy to search, but there was definitely some non-stop crowing about Man U winning the league this year earlier in this thread (it coincided w/ lots of Ole vs. Lampard/Arteta shit-talk IIRC, as if that was ever a high bar)

No need to use the search function.

This is from the first page of this thread (about Manchester City):

They are the odds-on favorite, for sure. They've spun off 14 wins in a row so there is no doubting their current form.

Look at this dude humble bragging about having functional knees past age 30. Who would you say your game most resembles? Sounds a lot like hungover Eric Dier.

If there is one attribute I think of when it comes to Erik Lamela it is assuredly "work ethic".

Maybe?

Last time I even went out there was mid-March of 2020. Got my vaccine this past weekend so I'll update in a couple weeks.

Great topic.

I'm a fat(ter) John Hartson with better hair. As in, I have hair.

Lol but also gems like this:

Will Man United end the horrid 7 year wait for #21? I vote yes!

Add 1 match played and 3 points to this table for Manchester United.

Best performing side in the league for nearly the past calendar year, including the slow start to this campaign.

It's hard to fathom but this is the first time United have been top of the table in January (or later in the season) since 2013, SAFs last season in charge.

Won it that year so go ahead and put Manchester United Football Club's name on the trophy.

Obviously some of it tongue in cheek, but completely consistent with your regular confidence in the club, which I really don't recall seeing wane in the last 8 years. I suppose that's because even when you had to put up with a Mourinho-in-descendancy you got a Europa League title out of it.

Haha, funny you bring up adult league soccer. And it's true that I prefer to try to emulate great central midfielders, but lame that just because I could run more that I'd be forced to play on the wing. I was on a team with DV7 for years and we won a title on a 2-0 win, both assists I provided in the exact same way: dribble down the side line, beat a defender, cross it from the end line to an oncoming striker. The defender I beat both times was a guy I played club with back in middle school, so that was great.

But our central midfielder on that team was also a former wake player, so no chance for me.

I prefer the defensive midfield because my greatest skill is POSITIONAL DISCIPLINE. I don't get carried away going forward and caught out of position like hungover Brasky.

With noble and also I guess parker, you've got the commitment and passion and not a superior level of skill and sometimes that means clumsy tackles. Noble likes to put in a crunching one, usually in the first five minutes, but I firmly believe that he's never once been looking to hurt someone.

I think off the pitch stuff matters too, but much less so in my evaluation of players' dirtiness. I also don't hate all dirty players.

I'm surprised to read here that noble and parker are fourth all time for straight reds. But I don't think that tells us too much. Guarantee some of them were iffy calls, probably by Mike Dean

not a hurt-y crunch, just a crunch
