Totally Unofficial 2021 European Championship Thread (NWT)

That was way worse than the Hand of Clod goal. Don't think I've ever seen a worse play from a goalie.

Must suck to be Busquets. You used to come to these tournaments with Iker, Puyol, Pique, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Xlonso, Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva, David Villa... And now you look around and see who you're playing with.

was just looking up Spain total caps and Busquets is at 123. Jordi Alba is 74, the rest are like 25 or less. Even the supposed heir to Iker has been benched in this tournament.

I wish more sports broadcasts did the slow motion fan reaction like soccer

so I see Spain remembered how to score for at least one day. good for them.

Sweden at the death win the group!

and looking at the bracket that kinda makes England's path a bit easier if they can get past France/Germany/Portugal in the R16

Sweden/3rd place team in the QF. Most likely winner of Holland in SF assuming they get by the 3rd place team and winner of Wales/Denmark.

yes, wakephan09 has been banging on about this for the last decade plus.

Thanks for remembering. Can't believe it's been a decade since euro 2012, though perhaps 2014 witnessed the height of my ranting. At least scott Parker made the 2012 roster.

they should have dumped all the ancient and shit midfielders from the golden generation and brought in a bunch of unknowns from the championship. They would have done a job.

Henderson is the worst and most overrated midfielder of several generations. Trash player

This is how the last 16 currently looks assuming order stays the same in Group F:

Belgium v Portugal (F3)
Italy v Austria

France (F1) v Switzerland
Croatia v Spain

-------

Sweden v Ukraine
England v Germany (F2)

Netherlands v Czech Rep
Wales v Denmark

Note: Third in Group F go through unless Portugal or Germany lose by four.

wow. Very harsh penalty on Lloris.

He went to punch the ball and landed a great overhand right on Danilo's face.

ETA: The more I see the replay, I think that is a penalty. Lloris just mistimed his punch.

1. Portugal 2. France 3. Hungary 4. Germany

Wonder what odds you could've gotten for that order

Semedo is just not good at the defensive side of the game. Probably not a good quality for a defender to have. He bumps into Mbappe's back for no reason and a penalty is given.

Soft, but just a stupid thing for Semedo to do.

Hate that end of the half for Portugal because they've looked really good so far today

Enjoying the Renato Sanches Renaissance. Only 23, Golden Boy award winner in 2016, given up for done by Bayern Munich in 2019, and now looking like top 3 player on the pitch in this game.
