Tokyo Olympics

You could Google acc 400m 45.24 and find the same ACC.com link from Feb 2021 that I found.

I posted the wrong info and someone corrected it. What’s the big deal? Why is that important to you?
You spend most of your time telling people on here that they're wrong, so I thought it would be nice if you acknowledged that you had something wrong.

And wow, that's a new indoor record as of February. This is why I asked where you found your original information. The most recent conference media guide (from 2020-2021) doesn't have the new record.

14 year old Chinese diver Quan Hongchan did a perfect 10 dive on the 10m platform. This is her first competition outside of China due to her age and COVID. Unreal. She wouldn't have been eligible in 2020. She goes through the water like if you dropped a knife in a pool. She's on an Olympic record pace.

Just got another perfect 10. Five dives in the Final and her 2nd and 4th were perfect. 6 10s and a 9.5 on her last dive to beat the Olympic record.

Carl Lewis weighs in and summarizes two decades of Olympic sprint relay failure. Nobody likes to hear Carl's opinions as much as Carl, but he's not wrong here:

Worth watching. Incredible.

Apparently. 32-10.

France vs. Luka and Slovenia for the right to play Team USA for the Gold on Friday at the very US friendly time of 10:30 pm EST on NBC.

Can't believe Nic freakin' Batum saved the game for France, what a block.

Has diving just become a child's game? Was watching last night for a bit and a lot of the competitors were below or near-driving age. Athletes in their 20's were few and far between, let alone 30's.

Track folks - Why is indoor slower than outdoor?
harder to run fast on tighter, and more frequent, turns

unlike swimming where short course times are faster because turns are faster
Just to add a detail that might be useful: most indoor tracks are 200 meters, so half the length of the standard outdoor 400 meter track. (Hence thatguy's point about tighter, more frequent turns).

Cole Hocker is into the 1500 final.

slow pace of that heat helped him - Centro had a much faster pace to deal with which negated his kick advantage

Hocker 2nd in his heat with a 3:33.87 (PR for him); Centro 9th in his heat and out with a 3:33.69 (nice!)

should be a fun final

Meh. The bronze went to a 29 year old. The top American was in bronze contention and she’s 22 and already had a synchronized diving medal.

I think it’s mostly a Chinese diving thing. Their 14 and 15 year olds beat out the teens who won in Rio.

It does seem like it’s easier to control a body and avoid splash without breasts and hips though.

Skinny enough to tread water in a hose. And dive thru one too.

Yeah, the 14 year old looks like she's about 4' 8" and maybe 70 pounds, she's got as big advantage in diving as she would have a disadvantage in a canon ball contest. In a country like China I would imagine that start grooming these kids at a very, very young age for this stuff. I'm sure it's not that these kids grow up playing or participating in multiple sports and it kind of just happens as to what they have a passion for and what they have the most talent for. The 14 and 15 year old probably got identified at a young age and it was decided for them that diving was going to be their deal.

The foul ball alarm in Olympic baseball is incredibly annoying. Hope that never makes its way to the states.
