LOUISVILLE at WF, SATURDAY NOON, 12:30 kickoff

Can happen with this ref crew, which is the same crew that fucked up the Miami-Duke game 5 years ago (UM kick return TD on final play that had multiple laterals with players' knees down).

I was about to mention I saw that on Twitter, but it’s you I saw it from.

I'm genuinely curious how it's still an ACC crew. I don't know the football refs/crews nearly as well as who's good and bad in basketball (thanks, KenPom), but I know the Magallanes crew isn't thought to be one of the 2-3 best ones outside of the Miami-Duke vacuum.

The downside for yall is if asked on record, Clawson will give diplomatic answer about crew. The upside for me (muah-ha-ha) is I can ask Clawson off record and (maybe) figure out how he actually feels about the crew.

As opposed to Dabo who I believe at halftime complained directly about the reffing.

Dave was also going crazy on the sideline.

On the whole, I can’t remember ever seeing Clawson that angry that often on the sideline.

He knew it was going to be down to the wire and a shit call could upset the balance.

Nailed it. Depth at RB is such an asset right now. We are throwing guys at opposing defenses in waves.

Its nice to have depth all over. We lost Greene before the season even started, but we still have one of the best receiving groups in the ACC. We lost KWIII to the transfer portal, we still are deep and talented at running back. We lost Nash at Right Tackle before the season and the kid that transferred from Maryland at Guard has yet to play and our Oline has still been good. We haven't had Fox and Greer our best DT and safety the last 2 games against 2 potent offenses and still the defense played really well against UVA and well enough against Louisville for us to win. I don't think I've ever seen a Wake Forest team with this much quality depth. A lot of it has to do with the circumstances from the Covid season, but it sure is nice to have it whatever the reason.

Wow.

What do refs get paid? That crew was awful.

Thought this was a really neat video of Morin's TD catch against Louisville.

They had one like that for his TD catch last week too.

Any video link of Clawson post-game comments? I can almost always find a clip of his post-game but no luck this week.

He looked exhausted

He just exerted a lot of energy in the heat. According to Twitter, it’s impossible just to sit in that heat for four quarters in sundress. You can only imagine how tough it must be to actually do something.

meh i think we have hit the inflection point on replays and am happy that most sports are rolling back some of those initiatives. refs will never be perfect but imo they generally don’t have that huge of an impact on outcomes in the big picture.

To me the issue is how long it takes to do most reviews. There are opportunities to speed up the process.

I attended the Louisville game in 2019. Satterfield rode the officials' asses for 60 straight minutes of football. Followed them up and down the sideline like a rabid animal.
I was not able to attend the game yesterday but part of me wonders if Clawson was not about to let Satterfield get an upper hand in the "chewing" department.
Having said this, from what I could discern on TV, there was some horrible officiating (just another day in the ACC) that justified Clawson being upset.

THIS. I can't believe Louisville fans are even saying anything about Clawson after Satterfield's performance in 2019. I am convinced his ranting led directly to the CBS non-recovery, as the refs had heard enough from Satterfield, and didn't want to hear anymore. So, they took a peek and headed for dinner.

Our social media game is so much stronger with Wellman gone.

that's definitely my conspiracy theory, that the refs were tired, hungry, and over it. plus, doubt they felt threatened by Wake fans. so the choice is, recovered kick, possibly extending the game indefinitely, or ending it in just a few minutes?

I anticipated that this would be our toughest game and it wasn't close. My first reaction is that Louisville is good. Their two losses are to ranked teams. For some reason, CBS has them now ranked 54, two spots below UVA. I think that's way off. Cunningham is legit, and Tigerswood is right, he's a lot better than Nix.

This was the first game that we struggled against the run. Have to think that Fox would have helped a lot, as would Greer. I hope they're both available this week, and if not hopefully they can use the bye week to get back to 100%.
