Sam Hartman is…..

I would expect Perry and Roberson to declare barring something changing the season trajectory.

Maybe Roberson. He was on the NFL radar last year and I think he looks like a reliable possession guy at the next level.

I’m not sure Perry is on the radar at all. I like him but I don’t think he’s any better than the guys we’ve had who didn’t get drafted. Not yet at least.

That’s less relevant than Perry’s perception of his prospects. If he keeps putting up numbers for 6-7 more games like this then he’ll definitely be on the radar.

I agree on Perry. Right now he’s a very small sample size guy. Could develop into a great one but we’ll see if he can be the #1 guy at some point. He also had two or more super easy catches that he dropped yesterday despite his huge game.

Would hate to lose Roberson but Greene was tracking to be as good or better pre-injury IMO with his strength and ability to manhandle guys. Roberson has special hands though.

Didn’t realize Morin was a freshman, that’s huge also. He’s on his way to being a very reliable producer.

6-5 wide receivers are always on the radar. He’s getting plenty of attention.

We literally just had a productive 6-5 WR who didn’t get much attention and didn’t get drafted.

Looking back, we've had some good QBs but most played on lousy teams: Norman Snead, Riley Skinner, Mike Elkins, Brian Kuklick, Gary Schofield, Rusty LaRue, John Wolford, Jay Venuto, and now Sam Hartman. Venuto was blessed with excellent receivers, as is Hartman. None of these guys (don't know about Snead) were highly rated out of HS. Snead is the only one to make the pros as a QB (Freddie Summers played a few seasons for the Browns as a DB but not as a QB). Gutsiest? Wolford and Larry Russell (1970-71) who ran the veer (early version wishbone/triple option).

Edit to say: Elkins played mostly in Canada.

Mike Elkins was drafted by the Chiefs and stuck around the NFL for about four years.

@ seems a lot faster than Sage and gets separation. Sage was the master of body control and bullyball. Not sure how many 50/50 balls @ has won. His body control on the game winner at Cuse was special though.

tbf Scotty wasn't that guy until his injury-shortened RS-SR, right?

@Perry is definitely gonna be better than Scotty. Scotty is one of those guys who absolutely maxed out his potential. @Perry is just scraping what he's capable of... He's doing what Scotty was doing during his RS-SR year as a RS-SO, and he already seems like he's got more going on after the catch than Scotty ever did.

I agree about his potential which is why it’s crazy to talk NFL right now. NFL teams don’t draft WRs based on potential. They’re expected to play right away. It would be foolish to pass up a year of articles, scouting profiles, and NIL to try to get drafted on potential.

If we have a good finish and the offense who can return comes back, we will get a lot of attention as a fun team to watch.

sage surratt and greg dortch have to be huge cautionary tales around the Wake football program with Boogie Basham being the opposite example.

Need 7/11 to come through on that NIL money

Wake Forest football is a developmental program. The longer a player develops the better he will be. With the exception of Jessie Bates, players who have left the program before exhausting their eligibility have been disappointed in the draft and have failed to actualize their NFL dreams. Plan your work. Work your Plan. It's that simple. Stay. Play. Grow. Develop.

We could finish Top 15 and everyone decides to come back next year and see if they can get us and keep us in or near the top 10.

I hope they don’t but it’s good for wake long term if they do, so I’ll wish them well.

If they were all going to be 1-4 maybe 5 rd picks I would agree with you absolutely, but we are not Alabama and Sage, Dortch, and Wolford were every bit as good as those three. I just don't see it.

After not playing his first 2 years, Jay Venuto came out of nowhere to lead Wake to the 1979 Tangerine Bowl. He was ACC Player of the Year in 1979 and in his Jr and Sr. years he passed for 5056 yards.

Wolford is currently the backup QB for the Rams.
