Senior Day: 21 players honored inc. Tom,Roberson,CBS,Sciba

Roberson is in his 5th year and turns 24 next July - I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if he returns

Yeah in that case - he needs to leave as he had likely 4 years of a career only left.

Yeah I'd love to have Roberson back, but it doesn't make any sense from a financial perspective if he wants to play at the next level. For all I know Roberson could be getting a PhD right now, with one year remaining, and wants to follow a different career outside of football.

As PH mentioned, we are stacked at receiver regardless. Perry, Greene, Morin, Williams, Banks and the newcomers will still be a top-3 ACC receiving group.

Sciba has a shot at top ten all time in total FGs made. The success of Wake's offense may keep him from reaching number 1.

Will be interesting to see if Grimes and Claiborne honor their commitments to us and we get them on campus. They are 2 of the most talented offensive players we've ever recruited. Hence why tons of teams are trying to pull them away from us. Grimes has 20 receiving touchdowns on the year and has lead his HS team to 2nd round of playoffs.

Think I saw a stat that Demond Claiborne has scored on every 4th time he's touched the ball...Like....Wow.

Both guys would absolutely feast in our offense.

In the press conference today Maginn said he is coming back. Roberson said he hasn’t made up his mind yet.

Considering how short NFL careers are now and your prime is like 27 now - Q has no business coming back

Do you guys think Roberson has better pro prospects than Dortch or Sage had? If he wants to go let’s be happy for him but let’s not hold the door for him.

Roberson is a slot and Greene plays on the outside. Doubt Greene coming back influences Roberson one way or the other.

I meant Perry not Green. I don’t think Perry leaves this year next year possibly.

Yes. Much better. He’s got great hands, good speed, and is excellent at getting open.

I think any player with the option to return would be advised to do so. This is a developmental program. Develop. Add to your numbers, your reputation and some post season honors. Win a championship (or two). Finish your post graduate education or add another area of expertise. Unless a professional contract is guaranteed, stay. It's an additional (and likely last) year to play a game you enjoy. The real world and its problems will come soon enough.

Dortch had probably quickest one step of any guy we’ve ever had in last 20 years that I recall- his problem in the NFL is that level of quickness is a given and he has was undersized. Sage wasn’t the fastest but had good size and had some of the best hands we’ve ever had. Q isn’t Dortch fast but he’s faster than Sage- he’s just big enough to be a slot guy in the NFL. Doesn’t have size and speed to be a vertical threat, but he can find soft spot in a zone and reads coverage well. Yeah- he hasn’t had the taking over games like Dortch and Sage had but he will have a better NFL career- he’s just good enough at everything.

As has been discussed, our offense is rarely in a position to kick 50 yarders like 4th and 5+ from the 35 yard line.

Cool. So my question remains: do we know if has a consistent 45 to 55 leg? If he did, it would follow that there would be times where clawson would opt for the sure three rather than risk going for it on 4th and 5 from the 35. Lack of attempts from distance can also imply lack of confidence.

There was no hesitation sending Sciba out for a 49 yard attempt at Syracuse. He made it with plenty of distance to spare.

Again, Clawson’s offense isn’t really in a position to make that decision.

Probably, but with Q’s age, that’s a factor

That was a great kick but the sample of one will not get him drafted. But yes that does speak to clawson’s confidence, thank you.

Not sure i even follow that answer but you continue to tell me shit i already know. Very useful discussion.

You said, "there would be times where clawson would opt for the sure three rather than risk going for it on 4th and 5 from the 35" so I wasn't sure you knew the offense hasn't been in those situations.

this bsd article from the spring had us at 92 schollies: https://www.bloggersodear.com/2021/2/18/22289059/wake-forest-football-2021-scholarship-chart, and we currently have 12 commits, so we're already 14 above the roster limit. i assume we want to add a few more commits and really want to get a few guys from the portal, so i would guess we need to drop about 20 schollies at the very least.

i'm gonna assume nash will come back and the other eight seniors are out, so twelve more schollies to free up. from the RS-Jr list: Hardmon, Clapp, Monroe and probably Taylor look like guys who will play their masters year somewhere else. and then let's assume roberson and tom go pro. still a lot of work to do. from the rs-soph list, royce francis is really the only guy who doesn't play much. maybe zion keith. also just noticed ken dicks isn't on the roster anymore.

So, appreciate the hell out of you catching this, because got official word on this tonight and here's the short story.

Lol. Uh-huh.
