Official CFP Rankings Thread - #16 Deacs (#15 Pitt, #18 State, #20 Clemson)

If Wake wins this weekend they should rise three or four spots. Conference championships will produce losses to teams ranked above them. Four other two loss teams are in championship games. Five two loss teams are finished for the season and could be passed by virtue of a championship victory over a ranked team and eleven wins vs. ten. Opportunity knocks.

The big question I have is whether we end up ranked if we happen to lose these last 2. Going into next season with high hopes, I think we need to begin ranked to be in the discussion. Obviously a win this weekend makes this question moot.

If Wake wins out it will be the best season in Wake Forest football history.

Conference champs benefit from having the spotlight. With a win, I think we jump #15 Pitt, #14 OU, and #12 BYU. Utah may jump us if they win. I think we jump Iowa if they lose. So there's an outside shot of getting in the top 10 with an impressive win.

As far as the rest of the rankings, I think the big question is if 11-2 Alabama (L), 11-2 Michigan (L), or 11-2 (W) Baylor get the #4 spot above 11-1 ND. ND has no Top 25 wins.

Not me. We’re in rarified Wake air and I want to see how many wins we can pile on. Plus it will be all that much more momentum through spring ball.

Yeah. It will be the greatest Wake team of all time with another ACC Championship, but a win over Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl would cement finishing Top 10, being in the preseason Top 25, maybe in the preseason Top 15.

Dang. Would have been great to take advantage of this change this year.

an expanded playoff is not a good thing for our already minuscule hopes of ever winning a national championship in football imo.

I disagree. It gives us a seat at the table where anything can happen. A lot of good teams will be eliminated in the first round so you just have to survive it.

Yeah. Like a month ago we were all talking about scenarios where an undefeated Wake would get left out of the playoff. An expanded playoff would almost eliminate that possibility.

Any expansion should include all P5 conference champs and one G5 champ.

Yep. Even if the expansion is just to 8 teams, the idea is that the champions of the 5 power conference would get a bid, and there would be 3 at-large bids (or a G5 bid and two at-larges).

Might be our best chance to get in. After consecutive 10 wins seasons the next steps would be making the playoff to elevate prestige and recruiting even more. Then bam we win one.
