MBB Game 12: WF v. Charlotte - HOF Shootout - Friday 9pm ACCN

2 games in a row with play for Williams n he trusts Mucius to finish!

WOW on number 2. People won’t like that take.

Mucius was the obvious call to take that shot. They had been keying on Alondes and there was literally nobody else on the floor or available off the bench who had a chance to hit an open three. Williamson was bricking. No thanks on Walton or Sy. As for the first part, it's true. Mucius is feast or famine shooting. He has hit some big shots this year, but man when he bricks, it looks like me shooting out there. Like, let me shoot this miss, then an airball, then one two feet to the right off the backboard, and then I'll just swish 2-3 in a row.

Random thoughts:

Hildreth couldn’t stay on the floor tonight and had a poor game as a result.

Whitt gave us 20 minutes. That was important.

Williamson just a hair off on his 3s. Need him to knock down shots for us to be good.

Charlotte also played their starters a ton. Young with 39 minutes.

If we have a player step out of bounds just before shooting a 3, that shot is going in. Guaranteed.

One more:

Alondes talks shit all game. From warm-ups until the final buzzer. And probably afterwards, too. I dig it.

Mucius has the most 3's on the team, 25 vs. Williamson's 24.

Also he had a slow start to the season, I suspect his numbers more recently reflect better on what's he's doing. As opposed to last year when him or Mousoud had to take over the game, he's playing his role as 2nd, 3rd or 4th option. More importantly he makes it so Manman doesn't have to force it at the end.

Senior leader and glue guy.

We have 5 freshman on this team. 1 was sick. The other 4 scored a combined 0 points, had 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. I understand they might not be ready to be big contributors, but we’ve got to get way more than that.

Williamson was 3-9 for 8 points and zero assists. The man he was guarding was as 12-21 for 27 points and 4 assists. He got abused.

Freshman are freshman. We don't beat VMI without Hildreth.

I think Walton is Walton. Makes no sense why he doesn't get more rebounds. He's always active, it's not because he doesn't make the effort on both sides. I just don't think he's going to get the 10rbs/gm we think he should. That said if he can score double digits it's something I can live with.

Yeah. He's not that kind of big. Plus, I think Forbes likes the guards to rebound and push the ball up the court faster.

Yeah Walton doesn't get many rebounds but he doesn't usually let his guy get many either. None of their bigs had more than 4 boards. Walton is what he is but I'm kinda warming up to it. Especially if he could get back to hitting an open 3 on occasion.
Sy is a little harder to understand because he's plays a stronger brand of ball.

Bottom line is winning without LaRavia is a challenge for this team. We're relying too much on Alondes, Daivien is running cold, the freshmen aren't giving us much... Yet we're 11-1. Forbes is getting a LOT out of this squad.

Rough game but I didn’t think we were gonna lose. Mucius’s final shot felt fated. Also, what a pass by ManMan.

Too close for comfort, but a win.

Worst defensive performance of the year. Baskets came so easy in the first half the team never got into a defensive flow. Once Charlotte got some momentum the Deacs had few answers.

Williams performance the last three games has been outstanding. Unfortunately, the rest of the team spends more time watching him than moving the ball and themselves. Laravia will help with this and I imagine Forbes will address it.

Mucius had a great game. His performance on the court is matching his leadership role. Hope it continues.

Lost my internet connection during Cam's three second half minutes. Must have been lousy because that's all he played. Whitt worked hard on defense, helped with the ball handling, had a couple of assists and didn't commit turnovers.

Forbes appears intent on winning each game even if it requires major minutes from his trusted players. At present, the only freshmen he trusts are Hildreth and Whitt and he has parked them on the bench if they screw up. It appears the freshmen will be required to earn PT in practice. Brief appearances to gain experience may not be in his playbook. Earn it.
