Yeah unfortunately. I’ve seen some of the books for the Birds and the amount of money they bring in each game is ridiculous and that’s with free parking. You also have to remember the Birds find his other teams and keep the annex busy making the city a lot of money

For the memorial, yes. One reason we should built a separate arena and expand the actual memorial.

I just feel like the arena would end of being named something like BB&T arena or some corporate bullshit and while I understand that, I just feel like "The Joel" is something I don't want to lose because of it's uniqueness and what it stands for.

Exactly. Gotta take every advantage possible. Sucks but that’s how it is. Take care of the memorial and appropriately honor Lawrence Joel and other local veterans. Then take the cash. Just hope it’s something decent like Noble Arena and not the Dogecoin Dome.
 
I just found my opening night medallion from when the Joel opened back in 1989. To support the "hide your keys" campaign, bidding starts at $100,000. All proceeds go to support naming rights for the "OGBoards.Com Coliseum" Fund.

I don't disagree with this. I just hope they don't insult our intelligence with some lame effort to leave Lawrence Joel in place like they tried to do with Groves. You know, like, "Lawrence Joel Men's Bathroom at Atrium Health Arena." Just scrap the name completely and don't pretend like it still matters.
 
Buy five acres on the south side of town and open Lawrence Joel Memorial Park.

The Joel is horrific. It isn't made for winning and never will be. We must do the right thing, not the quick thing, and build the ideal venue for the next 4 decades. Lipstick on a pig will just mean more decades of disaster.
