MBB Game 27: WF at Duke -- Tuesday 7 pm: ESPN

What has Tommy Amaker accomplished up to this point in his head coaching career to make him a shoo-in for the Duke job? His 1 NCAA tourney appearance in 10 combined seasons at Seton Hall and Michigan?

Sure Scheyer is a risk but he has upside potential.

And I don't think Amaker is a bad coach at all but just find the "he was passed over" narrative over-dramatized.

Amaker has a bunch of tourney appearances at Harvard.

The last call, unfortunately, was the right one.

No, it wasn't. There is no interpretation of the rule that allows that basket. The ball was above the cylinder on the final touch that pushed it in. Doesn't matter at all if the ball was out of the cylinder (it wasn't) when first touched by either player.

You're taking my response to LK's post out of context here. I wasn't discussing fair calls.

I said I've seen crazier comebacks being down 19 in CBB before and LK responded that it wasn't possible in Cameron as we were clawing our way back in.

The last post of mine you quoted was in response to a few people complaining about us not taking the lead because of the refs when we had a bad stretch of turnovers and forced shots under 5mins.

For the record I was wrong and I'm happy about it.

Ian O'Conner's new book is reporting that Amaker had an offer on the table for the HC job from the admin, K veto'd it for Scheyer. He told Amaker about that over Zoom.

No matter who takes that job they are one bad stretch of games away from coming under a ton of scrutiny. So hard to follow a legend in any college job unless you're a legend yourself. Bama after Bear. UNC after Dean. UCLA after Wooden. Indiana after Knight. Right, wrong or indifferent it's just a tough gig.

Funny bc right before Forbes was hired I recall some rumors here and on Twitter about Amaker spotted on campus and everyone let out a collective "meh."

It seems obvious that the successor was always going to be on the bench currently, or one who had left recently like Collins or Wojo. But after Wojo was fired he was likely out. You could've had Capel there, too, until his disaster at Pitt. Amaker has been away from the mothership for so long.

Correct - But I focused on his power conference resume as this is more relevant for the Duke job than what he accomplished in the Ivy League.

The same as we would have questioned Steve Forbes' record if he had only 1 NCAA tourney appearance in 10 years at two high major schools prior to taking the ETSU job.

Didn't one of the green ogboards.com super users confirm (or perhaps was the source of) the 'Amaker spotted on campus' rumor???

appears so. this is the first concrete post in that thread. any mentions of Amaker prior to this post are just discussion of him as a possible candidate.

Tommy Amaker is at Wake today.

Cannot go through this entire thread but is there footage of Duke player laying Monsanto out in the first half? An atrocious call at first glance. Announcers too busy slurping Duke's hog to acknowledge it and producers could care less why a Wake player went down. It was around the 10 minute mark I think and Duke had still not been called for a foul.

Duke was called for its first team foul at the 8 minute mark, if I'm not mistaken.

After seeing Banchero play a few more times I wouldn’t draft him high. He does play small and doesn’t seem like he’d ever be a plus defender. He’s not much of an improvement on other disappointing Dukies.

Mark Williams seems like a poor man’s Ayton. I’d be fine drafting him around #20.

The Spurs don’t need any guards but Alondes could profile similar to Derrick White with more size/athleticism and playmaking but not the same defense. They have the Lakers’ 2nd which would be a good spot.

Banchero is like Jabari Parker after 25 ACL surgeries

Would not draft.

Agree. Like Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith far more than Banchero. Realize Holmgren makes Kevin Durant look husky, but he is a rare talent. Dude is 7 feet tall, and he is shooting 47% from 3 (and 74% from 2). He also may be the best shot blocker in college hoop.

Duke has built a home court advantage over the last 35 years that influences the refs and helps them win games. I think Wake fans would love to do the same.

Like Porzingis with more positional flexibility, higher upside, and more likely to reach that upside.

I told you the Spurs shouldn't draft him. :)

Smith is my favorite prospect in this draft tbh. He maybe has a lower ceiling than Holmgren (maybe) but he’s going to be a hell of an NBA player.
