Official 2021-22 NBA Offseason Thread - Warriors extend Poole and Wiggins

A lot of randos are on rosters now trying to play themselves onto a roster for next year.

what the hell is actually going on with Ben Simmons?

also kinda surprised to learn Hoard is still kicking around the league

Supposedly Ben Simmons has a bad back. It is unclear how much of his spine is involved.

Ben Simmons... Why would anyone count on him to contribute in anyway to any basketball team at any point?

Interesting game for the Hornets at the Heat tonight. Assuming the Heat would rather face the Hornets or Hawks than the Nets in the playoffs, each win by the Hornets at this point is as good as a loss by the Nets from their perspective. Other teams might just openly lose the game, but I'm not sure that is how the Heat roll. Though they do owe us from the complete bullshit OT Lowry over the line followed by Olynyk back to the basket shooting FTs game.

ginobili is still super underrated imo.

my fav system raptor (more on a flaw in the system later) has data for his last five seasons, age 36 to 40. manu's rank in overall RAPTOR by season (this is the per minute metric, not WAR which rewards time on court);

'14: 8th
'15: 30th
'16: 10th
'17: 24th
'18: 82nd

above average on both offense and defense every season.

about the system, its sounding like one flaw is that big men who play with poor perimeter defenders are probably overrated because they get so much more opportunity to make impact in high-leverage situations. not sure if that's totally validated by data or if there is a fix.

Just coming on here to post this. If I'm the Heat I throw it tonight.

The Nets will have to win two to get the 8 seed regardless of what happens tonight.

Nets have way easier of a remaining schedule. Everythings gonna come down to a 1 game swing most likely either way.

Jokic drew two fouls on Poeltl in less than 90 seconds. Poeltl is good against most of the league, but Jokic, Embiid, and KAT eat him up. Obviously they're incredible players. The Spurs have to decide if that's good enough long-term.

I was pretty meh about the Aaron Gordon trade, but pairing up Jokic with a rim runner and passable 3-point shooter has worked out pretty well.

Sixers set a franchise record tonight with 22 made threes. Ty hit 8 of 11 himself.

A few more notable stats tonight too, Joel had his 12th 40 pt double double in the season (leads the league). And he’s a point off the Sixers franchise record for road PPG at 31.9, tied with Wilt Chamberlain and behind AI at 32.9.

Sixers also scored 82 in the first half tonight, best half since 2017. Fun.

Pacers weren’t awful either, Halliburton is so nice.

I can't believe the Kings traded him for a stat-stuffing big and kept Fox.

By the way, the Heat came to play today. They have 17 threes. Herro and Robinson have 5 and 6.

Official 2021-22 NBA Season Thread - HOF Manu

Ish with a near triple double (9/7/12) with 5+ left in the game.

Spurs up 20 at the half on the Nuggets. Spurs win and Lakers loss clinches the 10 spot. If the Pels lose, the Spurs tie for the 9 spot.

Hopefully Cavs fall to the 9 so Hornets don't get embarrassed in the play-in again. Thankfully that's what I'd put my money on happening now since the Cavs have to go to Brooklyn on Friday, and assuming they lose that they'll lose the H2H to both Brooklyn and the Hawks

What has happened to their defense? Giving up 144 points in back-to-back games is pitiful.

Hoard with 24 and 21 tonight. Dang where that come from?

24/21/3/3. Damn.

Sarr with 10/12 and 2 blks.

Ish finished with 11/8/14.

I assume CP is about to ball out right now as well.

What has happened? They have the worst scoring defense in the East. Teams just stroll into the lane and score against them.

Seems like these are the same old mediocre Hornets we’ve known for decades. More exciting I guess but still firmly mediocre.

MVP Watch

Giannis - 127-106 win at Bulls - 18/9/7 on 53.8% fg

Embiid - 131-122 win at Pacers - 45/13/2 on 60.0% fg

Jokic - 97-116 loss vs. Spurs - 41/17/4/2 on 51.4% fg

The Spurs won at Denver without Dejounte Murray. The Spurs have now won 7 of their last 8. The Spurs have gone maybe .001% of the national press the Lakers have gotten and are going to make the play-in game ahead of them. At worst, they'll end up in the same spot and a few games back of last year without five key veterans from last year's team (DeRozan, Aldridge, White, Mills, and Gay). This is not a good team, but they've managed to be as not good with a very young roster with plenty of cap room, assets, and flexibility.
