Man, when I reminisce on how excited I was about the Victoria's secret catalog back in high school and then think about all that's available on the interwebs for kids today it's amazing to me that our society is still relatively functional.

Too much crime, almost all at night. Other entertainment options developed in SouthEnd. Went into foreclosure. A visiting doctor/business man who had walked outside due to a fire alarm was shot to death on the street by some shithead teenager from Georgia who got into a fight with someone else and also has shitty aim. All the remaining tenants left during Covid. Going up for bids soon and the former owner may buy it back out of bankruptcy.

Any of y'all ever traveled in Guatemala? Juice? Any recs or advice? Anything about Guatemala City?

I stopped on a cruise back in ‘09. We did a cool jungle/river tour but the olds wanted to get back to port to shop the shitty trinkets.

Our guy took us in his personal vehicle to some spot on the water for food that was incredible. He pointed out all the hookers and the garages used for that purpose.

oh man there is a restaurant in SLC that i love called Purgatory. it's a bunch of hot, tatted up waitresses who undoubtedly left the mormon church and now like to party. food is awesome, cocktails/beer selection good. i used to connect there quite a bit headed out west and would have enough of a layover before redeye to go get a bite/drink.

I wouldn't spend any more time in Guatemala City than you need to. I think I remember you saying you're doing Acatenango? I'd hit up Antigua for the colonial history vibes, then head over to Lago de Atitlan - not a ton to do but beautiful scenery, authentic small towns and some hiking possible. Semuc Champay is absolutely stunning, but it takes a bit of work to get to - it's a full day drive from Atitlan. Same for Tikal - it's in the northern part of the country but worth getting to if you have time. I think you can get cheap flights from Guat City. I hiked Pacaya when I was there - it was active and lava was flowing by and melting our shoes.

I haven't been there in nearly 15 years though, so no idea on restaurant recs or anything. Find the local market and eat at the busiest stall.

We're homebasing in Antigua for the Acatenango hike. Have been thinking about hanging in Guat City for a bit but heard it can be kinda sketchy even for two decent sized dudes. There for four days. Your advice would be to hit up Pacaya since it's so close to Antigua after the Acatenango overnight?

I'd ask your hotel in Antigua what the situation is at Pacaya. I know a handful of people died 5-8 years ago when it erupted suddenly. I don't know if they've restarted visits or if you can only view it from a distance. You might also be volcano'd out after Acatenango. Guat City was definitely edgy when I was there. I spent a year and a half backpacking through Latin America and that was one of the few really uncomfortable spots.

Had a really solid interview with a guy at a different company today. Kind of refreshing to speak with someone from the northeast who was so straight forward about what he was looking for in the role, and why he was looking at me for the position. Now I am all in my head about, whether or not I was too excited for the role and maybe didn't answer his questions as well as I could have.

Its much easier when you both just realize its not the right fit and you don't have to worry about it. This is why I was bad at dating as well.
