Star Wars thread (Ahsoka)

Star Wars thread (Obi-Wan Kenobi ep 4)

Vader is much stronger in the Force than some Inquisitors.

Inquisitors can’t sense the Force. That’s why they were making inquiries on Tatooine instead of just sensing Jedi. Thus the whole “Jedi reveal themselves” speech exemplified by goading the Jedi into using the Force.

We don’t even really know if Vader can sense the Force in just anybody unless they use it. We do know he can sense a force wielder he’s very close to in Obi-Wan and his son after meeting him. So he has to have a connection.

Finally got caught up on this. Obviously the major issue (that I’m sure has been commented on) is the pointlessness of this story. We know what happens to the major players here so the show has no real stakes.

10 year old Leia <<<<<<< Grogu

It’s fine but we can put these characters to rest.

If someone tells ya’ll a story about the time they almost died do you stop them halfway and say “whoa, I already know you’re fine. This story is dumb.

All my grandfather’s stories about sinking subs and fending of kamikaze while on a ship during WWII were super boring bc I mean he was right there telling me. He didn’t even die!

I agree that the Skywalker saga is played out. Let's move on.

Didn't I hear at one point that Disney was going to develop a series of movies set in the High Republic?

Another random thought: I don't there should have been a 7, 8, and 9. I'm against the trope of having a movie / series end on a high note, only to come back later on to completely undo the ending.

the show kinda sucks for a bunch of reasons, mostly writing and some weird direction/casting, but "Obi Wan and Leia can't die" is the worst complaint

To me it certainly lessens the tension when they are put in mortal danger. If others are still entertained by that great. But since the main thrust of the narrative so far is the kidnapping plot I just find myself hoping they’ll get to some character building rather than spending a bunch of time on a rescue that we know will be successful.

Like the most interesting moment for me so far was Leia asking if Obi Wan if he was her father. Need more stuff like that and less pew pew pew

perhaps they should've framed the story as a flashback rather than try to gin up tension

Better Call Saul has created tons of tension when you know most of the characters survive through.

No one has even mentioned the fact they tried to escape the inquisitors by hiding Leia under his jacket like it was a little rascals episode.

This made me think of Vincent Adultman. Yeah that doesn't work because it wasn't 2 kids but that's where my head went.

So you hate sequels? Renewed TV series?

BCS immediately included characters who weren’t in BB and made you care about them. That helped.

well the main(?) villain in Obi-Wan is new and prob not gonna make it, so we'll see

That coupled with moments before the Inquisitors were about to torture a child made for wild juxtaposition

No. I hate how 6 ended with the destruction of the empire, the death of the emperor, and everybody feeling pretty great about themselves only for 7 to come along and Han and Leia aren't together anymore, the galaxy is basically still the same as it was (only with the first order instead of the empire), and Luke completely disenfranchised with the Jedi and the Force in general.

so....OB went from "barely moving a domino" on the ship to "hold back a trillion gallons of water with the Force" but was able to cloak his force?

Well by then he had already been detected, so the use of the Force doesn't really matter. But if you're complaining about how he went from zero to 100 with the Force in the span of about 5 minutes, I think that's a legit complaint. My response would be that he tapped into it quickly because of the emotions involved in protecting Leia. Or something like that. The whole waiting until the last possible moment thing that they've done in movies forever, and that they used to more ridiculous effect a few minutes later in the episode with the ships landing on the deck and rescuing them all (except for that one dude, who had an explosive box Force-chucked at his ship).

I partially agree with this. But just because the emperor died, it doesn't necessarily mean that the Empire is destroyed. There was still a lot of the remnants of the Empire that would need to be dealt with. It think this would have made a stronger story for the sequels. The original Thrawn novels dealt with this to an extent with the remnants of the Empire. I would have like to have seen more of what happened with Luke and Han and Leia. I get that they were trying to create a new main cast, but then they prominently included Luke and Han and Leia anyway, so why not tell the story of how they got to that point. How did the first order rise and the rebellion fall? What lead to Luke becoming disillusioned with the Jedi? Why did Ben turn to the Darkside?

Maybe we need Prequels to the Sequels.
