Appalachian State

If I asked 100 friends in the Northeast if they’ve ever even heard on App State, I’d likely get get 90 percent “nos,” with a few possible exceptions from football fanatics. Like others have said, if they join the ACC, it means the ACC is the equivalent of a high school conference.
To be honest is you asked the same 100 people about Wake the response would probably be identical.

Wake is pretty well known in the Northeast among college educated professionals. Lots of applications come to Wake from those states.

Texas AM was so overrated. But App thinks they won the national championship. App dudes in my face saying App has a better football program than Wake. Because you beat Texas A&M? They were 8-4 last year and lost to some bad teams and barely beat some other bad teams. And they were to play Wake in the bowl game but bailed out. So I asked them this: would Wake fans have stormed the streets if we beat Texas A&M? The answer is clearly a NO.

What will the win over A&M mean if App can't win the Sun Belt and they give up 59 again in a bowl loss to someone like WKU?

I’ve lived in Boston for a decade and as far as I know nobody has ever responded “what’s that?” when I said I went to Wake Forest. People either say “oh that’s a good school” or “I love Tim Duncan” (or less occasionally Chris Paul)

It is interesting how many do not really recognize the Wake Forest gravitas among the college bound populace east of the Mississippi and in the U. S. Wake Forest is a known entity. App State not so much. It is not completely unknown but it doesn't share the gravitas of Wake Forest. It just doesn't. That doesn't make it a poor or bad institution but it is a regional state school just like Southwest Texas or whatever it is called.

Stopping in Boone for lunch on the way to Bristol for the weekend. This place is buzzing, and almost every business is slobbing GameDay's knob.

Guess we would have also.... if we were allowed to attend the game when GameDay rolled into Wake. :(

Not relevant to really anything, but Redskins/WFT/Commanders owner Dan Snyder's kid is on the App. State football roster. He's a backup TE, and does not play. Just a weird connection on many fronts.

At least to me, that's the biggest reason I'd want it next weekend if I were a Wake fan.

They did a 3-hour show from the fairgrounds and spent relatively zero time on WF. Nothing about Sam Hartman's adopted brother's tragedy, about Clawson and his wife having to live separately during that season, about the facilities at Wake ... zilch. I get it, there was a lot of shit to discuss.

But aside from the "all six of their fans" bullshit, that's the biggest "disrespect" shown toward by ESPN/GameDay.

Which is why forcing ESPN to take Wake seriously last year was so satisfying.

I just don't get why ESPN feels the need to shit on us constantly. Yes, App is a bigger school than us in terms of size, but they like the underdog element of it. Our coach is a great guy, we score a shit ton of points, our QB is a great due with a hell of a story. We're an excellent academic school. What's not to like?

I think they just don't know Biff.

Is there any conference with more than four teams from one state aside from the MAC and Ohio?

The Big 12 will for one year if Texas can’t leave next year.
PAC: Cal, Stanford, UCLA and USC.

Also, this seems like a lot of noise for a .500 team.

More than four teams.

I was glad that App beat A&M. I have zero respect for those clowns.

But I am so sick of hearing about App this week that I hope they lose to Troy. And Gameday is going to a game that isn't even on broadcast TV?
