Wake Forest Basketball Recruiting: Juke Harris Commits!!

We aren't going to land the big targets until we start winning tournament games. And even then, we can maybe hope for top 50 guys.
We got to get in the tournament first. And we will. It is an 0fer so far on HS kids but we were serious finalist for #26,27,77 and still in it for 76&89

Non of the HS kids being recruited had been born when Wake last won an NCAA Tournament game. They were little kids the last time Wake played in it, and that was a "first four" loss. Kids want to think they have a reasonable chance of playing in the big dance.

Higher than 25-10 in new coach’s second year? Let the man work.
25-10 didn't get an invitation. With the long drought, kids will be looking for results before they believe in Forbes. 25-10 record is a good start, but, unfortunately, I believe Forbes needs at least an appearance and preferably a win or two in the NCAA Tournament to get that issue even with the competition.

Oh absolutely but to put that our expectations after a lost decade should be higher is short sighted. Which I get for our starved hoop fans but it’s a journey, not a summer of NIL evolution

haha have you seen the schools out-recruiting us right now

are you serious

Lots of folks freaking about HS recruiting whiffs but losing cruits to Natty, #2&3 seeds means Forbes is in the right pool and the multi year portal guys gives him time still to be selective.
Meh, we said this about Manning for 4 or 5 years. Forbes is light years better at coaching and constructing a roster, but these recruiting misses use time and energy and hurt the program.

I have to wonder how much missing the tournament with two draft picks and a bunch of seniors hurt Forbes on the recruiting trail.

Our fault most of the rest of the ACC expected middle sucked? UNC sucked until the last month. Yes we shat the bed at Clemson but the staff is doing work. Bird man, Does their tireless efforts fatigue you?

Those are good arguments but I doubt they convince a prospect as much as "We went to the tournament last year."

I am not criticizing the staff, however there is no denying the investing time and energy into a big recruit that ends up elsewhere hurts the program. I have no solution to offer, but I think trying to pretend a turd sandwich doesn’t taste too bad because “at least we are in the conversation” is silliness. One really good thing we’ve this far is that when Forbes misses a recruit, he doesn’t panic and bring in Róndale Watson, he finds Cam Hildreth or Laravia and keeps climbing.

You're right, he's wrong. I got sick of eating shit sandwiches. Some people just have a taste for 'em.

Yeah, NIL will be a much bigger factor for hoops than for football. It's easier to pay 5 kids than 80, or the 1-2 kids you need for a tourney team than the 10-15 you need for a conference champ contender

We aren't deep into the NIL game and are unlikely to be unless and until the NCAA really sets the boundaries by pummeling programs (like aTm) who are abusing NIL.

Based on what I've read, and based on Forbes' comments, if we aren't deep into the NIL game, nothing else (including facilities, making or missing the tournament, and whatnot) matters.

I hope that we are balls deep in the NIL game. Taking advantage of what is available and what the market demands (even if we think it's a bad development) is not abuse. Expecting people to be passionate about winning while not taking advantage of what is available and the market demands is.

State of North Carolina law on NIL greatly limits what Wake can do before a student t athlete enrolls.

That makes me feel better. I prefer a state-wide handicap to some WFU self-imposed, self-defeating limitation. Which was the theme during the Wellman era, but seems not to be the case now.
