Aaron Judge - New HR Champ

I would bet my social security check this month that you haven’t watched more than 3 baseball games this year. Real baseball fans respect what the Yankees have accomplished in their long and storied history. And know their fans know baseball.
Haters will always hate.
Thoughts on New Yankee Stadium, Pop?

This is where I am

I am no Yankees fan but think Judge has had an amazing season and deserves the hype. That being said I cant unsee what I personally watched in McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds. Juiced or not those guys were cranking home runs at a ridiculous rate and the MLB loved it (and lets not pretend pitchers werent doing stuff too). And until the MLB tells me those records dont matter, then Judge is 7th to me

I mean let's be clear, Judge is the AL HR leader of all time. That should not be dismissed...I also think that those three guys not being put into the HOF speaks when MLB doesn't.

albeit, I believe Bonds was HOF before he juiced...

Agree on Judge as AL HR leader. A significant achievement

And I am really glad that he hit a homer off a Rangers pitcher to make history.

Numbers are numbers. Pete Rose has the most career hits. Barry Bonds hit the most home runs in a season and a career. Cy Young won the most games. Ty Cobb has the highest lifetime batting average. None of those players were a paragon of virtue and all of them would have taken any edge they had to win a baseball game. But their numbers talk of accomplishments unequalled by anyone that has played the game of baseball.

Put your asterisks and exceptions where the sun don't shine. They have no business in the numbers of baseball.

Related question, at what point do league records even matter anymore? Obviously anything pre-interleague play is significant because the only league crossovers happened in the WS, but with the universal DH both leagues are playing the same game now. Nobody gives a shit about whoever has the NBA Eastern Conference record for points scored (I'm assuming it's LeBron).

yeah AL record is one step removed from when you see arbitrary, made up records of like "only player with 5,000 points, 750 rebounds, and 34 steals since 1987"

I live in NYC, have gone to more than 3 Yankees games this season and watched 100s of games. Definitely respect the Yankees team and management for how they continue to compete year in and year out. But, no, Yankees fans absolutely don't know baseball. They are the biggest group of homer/fairweather fans in the world and have barely any knowledge outside of their own team, if they even know that - which its mainly complaining about their bad players and wishing they could get back Yankees legends like Brett Gardner and how bad trading away Gio Urshela was. Mind you, this is a Cubs fan saying that, so pot meet kettle and all.

Please, they play to win the game. Yankee fans are passionate about their Team, yes, it’s in the water. But they win. I rather be that fan then the “I give two shits about winning” Cub fans. And next to Cardinal fans (who own the Cubs) they are the most knowledgeable in baseball. Even The hometown White Sox are more passionate and knowledgeable than Cub fans. And that says a lot.

With that said, Yankee Stadium is a total disappointment of a ball park. Not even close to the Fenway, Wrigley, Citi Park experience.

Bro this is borderline Carolina or Duke fan “you’re just jealous of our success” bragging.

And you got a LOWF attitude. I admire success and not critical of anyone else’s accomplishments. You should try it.

22 out of the 27 rings that you brag about came before 1979. There's kids in college that have only seen the Yankees win 1 World Series in their lifetime. Since 9/11, the Yankees have the same number of championships as the Marlins and Royals and probably averaged a payroll 200% higher than those teams in that time frame.
What success are we talking about again? The one from 20+ years ago or the one from the 1930s?

Deacspop, do the Yankees titles with roiders like A-Rod and Clemens count? Or is that like Bonds’ HR record that should be ignored?

Baseball ™️ was all too happy to profit off Sosa and McGwire and Bonds even when it was obvious they were cheating. I was just a kid but even I knew it. Everyone knew it. By the time it all aired out, the checks were already cashed. Now they wanna act like it never happened without actually addressing the record books so they could mount this pathetic attempt to make it all happen over again. You don't get to have it both ways and for now that puts Judge's HR total at 7th which is cool but basically meaningless in my book.

Not sure your point but no problem.
Yanks have won 26 World Series, 40 AL pennants and 19 Division titles
Clemens had 1 WS, 2 AL Pennants and 1 Div Title with the Yanks.
AROD had 1 WS, 1 AL Pennant. 6 Division Titles.
Small % wouldn’t you say? How many did Bonds win? McGwire, Sosa?

I'm not decomposing all this but.

Sox have won more W-S since 2004. Yanks have been quite a failure based on their own expectations over the last decade. And I agree that the 20 somethings really have only one WS memory.

Judge, if he didn't get 62 it might have been super high drama to see a yankee suffer like that, but he got it, he's in AL that's the record.

Might mean a little more if he takes the Yanks to a WS win.

Just felt glad he didn't get those iconic HR's against Boston at home.

This definitely sounds like Duke and UNC fans. "But how many championships does Wake have?" Hell, even FSU fans on Twitter were spouting shit like this about their football program last week. It's lame.

How many World Series have the Yankees won in the last 50 years with rosters that didn’t have guys on steroids?
