WF MBB Game 18: Deacs at BC: Saturday 8 pm: ESPN2

Loved the way we moved the ball. The last few games, I’ve felt like our offense has been the three ball plus a bunch of iso shit. Tonight, felt like less reliance on three, way more cuts, backdoor passes, pick and rolls, etc. Way more varied on offense, made possible by our passing.

Please give me 20 from Carr and Hildreth every game. Love to see it. Both played with a ton of poise and confidence.

Also, unlike many here, I thought Crean was super insightful on the color commentary. Way better than some recent ACCN calls we’ve had. Thought there was some interesting perspective from a coach’s eyes, like when taking an open three was a good decision vs. not, some stuff about footwork and how much they set and elevate affecting the shot, some other nuanced stuff like that.

Also meant to add - great defensive intensity the whole game. Constant swarming of the ball, man switching, etc. Just a high level of effort that is clearly the result of coaching.

I will be satisfied with any kind of W against Klempson, but I'll be ecstatic if we kill them!

Great win tonight. It’s time for us to end Clemson’s reign of terror.

I think having a secondary ball handler in Hildreth makes this team seem as good as last year’s even though the talent is clearly inferior. Earlier in the year I thought we would be totally reliant on Appleby. He’s still our best and most important player, but we have other guys out there that can do damage too.

They are a fun team to watch and it’s been great seeing them improve. I think this group has a high ceiling.

Offense is better this year. Defense definitely worse. Last year’s team would be favored as of now. Lots of season left though.

One advantage this year's team has is that Appleby is a more efficient ball handler and initiator of the offense. He is better at getting team mates involved in the offense. Another is that Hildreth is a better secondary ball handler. And he is bigger and stronger than Williamson and Whitt who filled that role last year.

This!!

Last year’s team was definitely more talented and likely wins head-to-head but it’s hard for me to get past the collapse down the stretch including an awful loss to basically this exact same BC team.
This year’s team is more balanced. We did what we did last night with Monsanto having an off night and only getting 3 points. There are four legitimate 20 point threats on the team. Last year we had 2.5 of those. Makes a big difference when games are determined by 6-7 points or less (many of our conferences losses last year).

Hildreth and Masterson are two amazing stories, only the latter’s bulb came on in the NFL. Maybe my faulty evaluation of Hildreth’s talents motivated him. I’m happy to have been so wrong.
Masterson was solid his senior year

You have to be impressed with what Forbes has been able to do this season. I did not think we would be in this position almost halfway through the conference schedule.

Especially given that someone we thought was going to be a key piece - Jao - is not even playing.

This is the second season in a row he has taken a player that already had a lot of experience in college, and is finding another gear (or two) from them. Alondes last season, Appleby this season.

I am concerned that Appleby will run out of gas down the stretch. Alondes seemed to towards the end of last season, and he was playing less minutes. But not sure what else can be done right now if there is no one else on the roster that can give 8-10 mins at guard.
