i think of it as you can spend money to get that time back for yourself..

eg insta-carting the order so you don't have to spend time in store dealing with general populace, then just going on a better and longer walk that's not bounded by the need to get somewhere

What about those people that wait in line at Costco to save maybe $0.10 per gallon? I'll just go pay a couple extra dollars and be in and out in less than 5 minutes.
Costco gas has been $.30 cheaper here than other gas stations and we’ve not waited in line once.

I mean it’s pretty remarkable to me how little people value their time. Usually it works out to spending $5 to save like 30 minutes
if you're billing hourly and getting paid extra for your 30 min, then sure

almost all of us aren't in that boat, and we all have 30 min of spare time that we're not getting paid for

I bet you always fast travel in every Bethesda game too!

is costco convenient to your home/commute? I'd have to drive 30 min and waste a gallon of gas to get costco

god i wish going to the grocery store were as fun as doing quests

instead its just an hour of dodging mouth breathers and waiting in checkout lines w/ people who are incapable of assisting the cashier in any capacity, would rather spend money to avoid that AND get my time back to do what I want like play Skyrim instead

The constant mental negotiations with myself regarding life in six minute increments and the value of those six minutes is a major reason I GTFO the legal world. And the partner who I got assigned to who loved to regale me with tales of how back in his day he was HAPPY to bill 3k hours a year and sleep on his office floor and didn't understand why I couldn't reschedule my wife's birthday dinner to spend another six hours working on our securities fraud filing

Social avoidance has increased to level 37.

You just don’t understand the grind

basically, time is money is entirely accurate, it's just more "you can buy more time if you have money"

vs the rise'n'grind approach of "you can be making even more money if you save that time and use it to work instead" or whatever, that's the grim outlook

I think one or two of you live in Dallas. Any recs on dinner, preferably not too far from University Park? I'm heading there on Thursday for a funeral (fuck you cancer) and need something for that night. I grew up in Dallas but haven't lived there since '93 and haven't been since probably '02, so I really have no idea where anything is.

that kind of lawyer is one of those who lobbied to have themselves classified as "essential" workers at the beginning of the pandemic, because they love to hear that their work is ESSENTIAL

Yeah even though we were allowed to work from home before the pandemic as long as we cleared it ahead of time, this particular partner never allowed it because we all "needed" to be in the same space. Which to some degree I get. I didn't understand it in the context here all the time because mostly he just wanted to be able to yell my name so I could come down and sit in his office while he read parts of his brief out loud, or went through red lines on my drafts changing the language 16 times out loud on his own, only to then two days later go back to the language I'd originally had while also claiming "this reads so much better, don't you see Numbers?"

I only go on the weekends, but in Winston, the line is a good 15 minute or longer wait. I just use my Sheetz loyalty card and buy their 88.
