MBB Game 24: Notre Dame @ the Joyce Center - Saturday - 1 pm Bally's (unless the plug is pulled)

Monsanto's overall 3PT% jumped from .400 to .415 today. He's around top 25 nationally.

His ACC 3PT% jumped from .390 to .416. He's #2 in the league behind Catoor.

With all due respect to Dickens, this game was a tale of two halves.

The first half just screamed to me, "no inside game." The second half, the gunners made that irrelevant.

It all worked out in the end.

Damari logo 3 was so epic. Loved the Bobi and Damari dagger 3s too lol

Your schtick is old he has single handedly won us about 5 or 6 games this year.

He probably cost us a few games too.

at Pitt:
With under 2 minutes he missed the front end of two 1 and 1s, and missed two free throws that would have tied the game with 30 seconds left. That’s at least 6 points lost at free throw line, and Wake loses by 2.

NCSU:
At the end of the first half has a layup blocked and NCSU hits a transition 3 right before 1st half ends. 5 point swing on that play alone

In the 2nd half had 3 or 4 layups blocked that NCSU converted into their own layup. Each of those were 4 point swings for a total of a 12-16 point swing. Again lose the game by 2 points.

Y’all are not looking at the entire picture of Cam’s game and the effect his offensive deficiencies has on the final score of a game.

Look at the rest of his stats in those games. He was a major reason we were even in the games to begin with.

Box scores don’t tell the entire story of the game. If you are relying 100% on the box score to tell you what happened, then you are missing half of what occurred during the game.

If you think another player on the bench would’ve been better in those games than Cam then I’m not sure you’ve watched one minute of this season.

Craig Dawson

Before yesterday’s game, Monsanto and Dawson had exactly the same 3-pt percentage for their WF careers. Dawson had attempted and made 2.5 times as many. Monsanto is shooting from a line almost 2.5 feet farther away. Monsanto’s career percentage went up yesterday.

3 players in WF history have shot over 40% from 3 while making more than 100: Monsanto, Cal Boyd, and Rusty LaRue. Those last two did not shoot nearly the volume that Monsanto shoots, and they also shot from the shorter arc.

This the best way I can explain my “issue” with Cam. Someone asked me my opinion on this team’s upside around the time we beat FSU and BC, and my response was let’s see how we play over the next five games. IMO, this year’s team is 1 piece away from being an NCAA Tourney Team, and that piece is a decent starting PG. This would allow Appleby to move to SG, a more natural position for him.

Think about it this way if this team had a PG similar to Teague or Ish then they most likely would be an NCAA Tourney Team. Even if you go down to the “next level” PGs at Wake over the past 25 years such as Downey, Rutland, CJ Harris, CMM, Hicks, and I’m sure someone will point out a few PGs that I missed, then they are probably still an NCAA Tourney Team. (And I left CP3 out because they would be a lock for the NCAA Tourney).

So your issue isn’t with Cam. Your issue is that due to injuries and recruiting Cam has to start and play more minutes than you’d prefer.

Basically, yes. You summed it up nicely.

I watch this year’s team and think, man if this year’s team could swap Cam for either Teague or Ish (or any of the other PGs listed above) then imagine their ceiling.

Wait. You think Appleby should be playing SG? You have seen him shoot right? And you see his assist numbers right? He is clearly a PG. Yes we need a backup PG but Appleby starting at the 2 is not what this team needs.
