Official 2022-23 College Basketball Thread: UCONN - One Shining Moment

They moved them off NYE unless NYE happens to be a Saturday (the goal now is to play them on the Saturday closest to, but not after NYE, unless the Rose/Sugar are the semis). They quickly realized ratings were a disaster otherwise.
They have has them on NYE the last two years.

I don't understand why you'd invite Iowa too. I guess to be fair it isn't the White House's decision, just Jill Biden talking off the cuff after the game.

Sorry, I should have been more clear....the "goal" is to have them on the Saturday closest to NYE, but if your options on the calendar are Saturday, December 25th, or Saturday, January 1st, then yes, they are obviously going to be forced to choose Friday, December 31st for the 2021 season, because the Rose Bowl won't move off Saturday, January 1st in this instance.

WTE Top 25 for 2024:

Duke and Kentucky over-ranked again.

Other ACC teams:

14. Miami
19 UNC (hilarious)

All of this doesn't mean much until the portal shakes itself out.

The portal is about to get nuts as the dead period ends on Thursday (April 6 at noon). There will be a new wave of portal entrants over the next few days.

If FAU can keep everybody on their roster then that's a fair ranking. They return almost everybody.

Will be interesting to see how Colorado does. Top 5 recruit in the class, Lampkin from TCU, and return most of their talent from this year's team.

Love that. Keep making Duke the favorite.
Yeah and obviously I'm not firing off picks prior to portal season largely playing out. Saw on Twitter that both Uconn and SDSU started the season at 66-1 to win the title.

Uconn adds four top 50 recruits next year. If anybody should be number one still it's gotta be them. Marquette's offense should be nuts. Creighton I believe is the leader for the UVA guy transferring since his GF goes there and he's homesick (from the area).

Not sure if this had already been mentioned, but things really worked out for Luke Murray who was fired by Chris Mack when he wanted to "shake things up" and fired his assistants, including Murray and Gaudio. Murray was on UConn's bench last night and they suggested he was the one who created the scout gameplan.

There were 8 minutes left in the third quarter when Caitlin Clark hit her 6th three pointer against Louisville and did the Cant see Me gesture to no one in particular.

Not comparing but ya know......still have a couple years to catch up & throw in some more similarities 🤷‍♂️🙏
🤭 (obviously joking but one can hope)

Anyone who reads this board knows how much I hate that American sports exist as a television show and not as actual sports as they exist in most of the rest of the world, but since it is a TV show, you can rest assured that the networks intentionally play games like this at this time, because it's when the advertisers will pay most for slots, because the highest portion of the target audience is watching.
Your definition of "rest of the world" is pretty much limited to places like Madagascar. You can't even watch most sports around the world without a specific pay TV package and/or announcers screaming ads at you during the event. Turns out money is something those who run sports around the world like to pursue.

I took it to be Jill recognizing that this tournament may be the turning point in women’s basketball. It was more watched and more discussed than any I can remember, and may finally have broken through to a more general population. I think she simply wanted to commemorate that achievement more than anything. It’ll be interesting to see if they can keep up the momentum leading into next season, but the ball is certainly rolling more than it ever has.

This whole public debate on Reese's and Clark's behaviors misses the mark to me.

A - Well no one said anything when Clark did it. Three things. 1 - what Clark did was wrong too and it seemed to be directed at an entire team. 2 - on a national level virtually no one was watching when Clark did it so it is silly to think much, if anything, would be said. 3 - even as Clark's actions were bad, she didn't do it to rub victory squarely in an opponent's face seconds before and after the title game ended and then double down on such behavior post game as ok.

B - Men do it all the time and no one says anything about it. There are countless ways to demonstrate this isn't true. When the Pistons walked off the court without shaking the Bulls' hands it was a huge media deal. When Messi got into it with the Dutch player in a post-game interview, it was a huge media deal (and Messi eventually said it was a low moment for him personally). We could go on and on about incidents of bad sportsmanship by men that have gone down the media criticism rabbit hole. And in most of those cases there was already demonstrated bad blood between the players (maybe that was the case here, but I've seen nothing to indicate it. Rather this seems to come across as Reese was just pissed Clark was garnering all the attention of the media and wanted Clark to know she didn't deserve it).

C - Despite the above lame aims at deflection it seems like no one talking about what an odd flex is it to achieve your highest personal moment you'll likely ever achieve in a team sport you've dedicated your life to by immediately rubbing it in the face of an opponent who, to my knowledge, never called you out publicly in the media or visibly during the game.

Clark often came across as an ass throughout the event during games who post-game would just try to say all the right things. Reese by contrast acted like even more of an ass and then doubled down (repeatedly) post game trying to justify her actions by making comparisons to others. Your standard shoudn't be well so and so can do it why can't I. And it wasn't as if Clark was some model for behavior anyway.
