Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

The personal animus people feel about tiger woods missing out on another near billion dollars is weird to me. I’m all for athletes making money as I feel sports are generally the only real meritocracy in the mainstream world, but we’re talking about people who are extraordinarily wealthy missing out on extraordinary sums of money.

Pops forgiving moral indiscretions because of money kind of explains a lot

Yeah. This isn't appeasing a foreign government to get into their market. Sports leagues, Hollywood, all kinds of businesses do that. That's another discussion for another thread. They're not trying to get on Saudi TVs.

This is a sports league merging with a foreign government entity and putting installing a foreign government agent to run the league with government funding backing.
Bingo.

Apparently for this to happen it needs to be approved by the Players exec committee (not sure that's what it's called). 5 members i believe and Rory is one of them

My guitardeac level scoop to add is, coming from a friend who played with Jon Rahm yesterday (he shot 59 at a course in AZ by the way) and texted with him today, that Rahm had no idea this was coming.
your friend needs to join the tour

also i didn't realize how much lower my personal regard for DR could go, but here we are. ambulance chaser defending the saudi body disposal machine while lamenting how much money some former wake forest student whose dick DR wants to suck may have left on the table

According to SportTrac Bill Haas' career earnings from golf tournament income alone is $32,453,212. That does not count any of his endorsement money, investment income or business endeavors. Not worried about Bill's ability to support himself, his family, and friends.
He made half of that in one week.

If it is the argument that Zalatoris should have taken the LIV money because his injuries might prevent him from playing golf again, would he have even been able to receive the money if he was unable to play in LIV events due to health reasons? It's my understanding that you have to play in a certain number of events to get the vast majority of the money.

maybe he would have gotten them in before getting injured.
It's all speculation. I'm sure anyone who is now dealing with serious injury would in hindsight think they should've taken the bag, but that's total hindsight

very on brand for the ambulance chaser to point out how much money an injury has cost someone AND to find a way for them to get paid without working

The U.S. is in bed with the Saudi’s. Sec of State Blinken is in Saudi today meeting with the Crown Prince. Biden’s security advisorSullivan Sullivan was just over there three weeks ago. The Saudi’s want to be in bed with Biden.
And Trump wasn’t in bed with them? 2 billion to son in law to invest their money. What did Trump do for them to earn this gift?

Will Zalatoris ought be your real concern. No telling what happens to his career with his back now. He was lied to and should be compensated. Of course, so many Wake folks told him to stay too--huge mistake.

He could get back to form in which case he will still make 100 million bucks. Or he could be the answer to a trivia question about who messed up the most in golf history by not taking the money.

I'm surprised the Saudis partnered with this US company in light of the worst human rights violations against their innocent citizens in human history by the US government at Gitmo -- decades of human torture on what we now admit were 100% innocent folks. Where is the outcry from their people?
This happened during Bush/Cheney years.

Why don’t you go to Saudi Arabia and criticize the government on an internet message board?

America - tortures a small number of innocent people in Gitmo.

Saudi Arabia - Funds terrorism on a large scale and is behind the largest attack on US soil in history, resulting immediately in thousands of lives lost and a near 20 year war with countless more lives lost.

DonaldRoss - Allahu Akbar!!

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

It's beyond insulting, but par for the course for someone as morally bankrupt as DR, pun intended.
