Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

OK, but hear me out. What if your heart physically can't take watching the game and need a distraction. Is it then acceptable to have it on and walk away to do another task so your heart doesn't explode? Asking for a friend.
No you just die in that case. This isn’t complicated.

This isn’t usable. There is no thank you to David Couch in it.

Guys here's the thing about tonight. It's not time to mess around. This isn't a "I'll have the game on in the background while I play parcheesi with the kids for family board game night." This isn't a "let me try on that new baseball jersey my wife got me for my birthday two weeks ago since it seems like it'll be a good time for it." This isn't a "let's all hold hands and have a good time while pulling for a fun game." This isn't about fun. This is a business trip. You will do what you've been doing while we've been turning everybody else in the NCAA tournament into meatloaf. If your significant other hasn't been watching up to this point, we don't invite them along for the journey. The team needs your full attention and if you don't give it, we will all know. Again, this isn't about fun, this is business.

No business trip is complete without expensive alcohol

so, what's the choice?

Is the lack of work for money and Coleman good or bad? Wouldn’t think they can handle a heavy workload without working up to it, right?
Coleman's lack of overall work this season is due to the fact that he got Tommy John in March of last year and made his first appearance this April. Another big reason for his lack of work is that he's been the go to "if necessary game" guy for the regional and super, and those games didn't happen. That's why he hasn't pitched since the SEC tourney.

He's got good stuff, but it only lasts for a couple innings. His velo decreases big time after about 40 pitches (mainly due to the lack of arm stamina coming off TJ).

Money was our friday guy last year until mid march. He can go 100+ pitches, but he hasn't done it in a year. He has decent stuff and throws strikes, he just gives up a shit ton of home runs. Hopefully (for our sake) the wind is blowing in at 30 mph again and we can get some work out of him.

I'll do my best to summarize the rest of our staff that could conceivably pitch over the next 2 days

Collins - Elite curveball, but that's all he throws. He can run it up to 95 but he'll throw a massive hook 80% of the time. After about 3 batters, teams just sit on the CB and he can get lit up.
Little - Elite stuff, hasn't had command in 2 months. Probably the last person I would want to pitch for LSU as of now.
Herring - Freshman lefty. Nothing overpowering (92-96) but he can go give you 3 quality innings if need be.
Guidry - Has been our defacto closer for the last month. True freshman, ranked #1 player and, obviously, #1 SS in LA last year. fastball 88-92 with a really sharp power curve that misses bats. Didn't start throwing bullpens at LSU until early February when our Saturday guy, Grant Taylor, went down with TJ in a scrimmage one week before the season. He can go 4-5 if he stays in the zone. Career high in pitches is 66 and has only thrown 1 pitch over the last 10 days.
Dutton - Another guy this park could help out. Tons of contact (.369 BA against) but pitched wellish as a freshman. Would hope to avoid using him in the CWS if possible.
Cooper - Y'all saw him last night. pitches to contact and has decent stuff. varying arm angles. has a rubber arm and would routinely go all three games of a weekend in '22.
Hurd - Y'all saw him 2 nights ago. FB up to 97 with good breaking stuff. If he has command, he is very, very good. I think Jay holds him tonight (if possible) and runs him out to start on Thursday.
Skenes - Best pitcher i've seen in my entire life lol.

Our best 2 relievers, Edwards and Shores, are both out for the season. So if you're running through our stats and wondering why I didn't list them, that's why.

Thank you - this was actually very helpful.

Reasonable enough summary, thanks for the insight.

I’d run through ours for you as well, but all you really need to know is that Keener is gonna throw a perfect game tonight.

Thanks for the run through. It definitely feels like your pitching staff has benefited from the challenges in the The Chuck as much as your hitting may have suffered. If the big weaknesses are giving up HRs, that's hard to do in that venue.

Unfortunately, we're second in the nation in home runs in a big park for college standards, so it has definitely hurt. Not neccesarily in the game against y'all. Jobert got into one but it died before the track. Last night we had 2 no doubters from White and Crews and they just stopped mid flight.

Honestly, that was my biggest fear for Floyd on Monday. Floyd is a fly ball guy that gives up the long ball, but he pitched the game of his life and I don't recall any deep fly balls in that game. Nobody that will go tonight has a combo of stuff and command like Floyd, so I'm hoping for more wind lol.

They are throwing seldom used weekday pitchers while we are throwing top end weekend pitchers tonight. The offense needs to get untracked and we need to smoke these fools. Pitching has been carrying poor hitting and defensive miscues. It's time for those parts of our game to step it up.

was keener one of our top end weekend starters? must have missed that

I did a little social media work and that killed the first 54 minutes of the day. I've killed the last 8 minutes registering for the LSU message boards hoping to field any and all questions about NC BBQ and will spend the next 7 hours or so frantically reloading all message boards and twitter to continue overdosing on this content
The amount of time's they reference things being "gay" or "homo" in a negative way on tiger droppings is unreal. It truly is a step back in time going over there. Reading comprehension levels tap out around 5th grade over there also.
