Is the lack of work for money and Coleman good or bad? Wouldn’t think they can handle a heavy workload without working up to it, right?
Coleman's lack of overall work this season is due to the fact that he got Tommy John in March of last year and made his first appearance this April. Another big reason for his lack of work is that he's been the go to "if necessary game" guy for the regional and super, and those games didn't happen. That's why he hasn't pitched since the SEC tourney.
He's got good stuff, but it only lasts for a couple innings. His velo decreases big time after about 40 pitches (mainly due to the lack of arm stamina coming off TJ).
Money was our friday guy last year until mid march. He can go 100+ pitches, but he hasn't done it in a year. He has decent stuff and throws strikes, he just gives up a shit ton of home runs. Hopefully (for our sake) the wind is blowing in at 30 mph again and we can get some work out of him.
I'll do my best to summarize the rest of our staff that could conceivably pitch over the next 2 days
Collins - Elite curveball, but that's all he throws. He can run it up to 95 but he'll throw a massive hook 80% of the time. After about 3 batters, teams just sit on the CB and he can get lit up.
Little - Elite stuff, hasn't had command in 2 months. Probably the last person I would want to pitch for LSU as of now.
Herring - Freshman lefty. Nothing overpowering (92-96) but he can go give you 3 quality innings if need be.
Guidry - Has been our defacto closer for the last month. True freshman, ranked #1 player and, obviously, #1 SS in LA last year. fastball 88-92 with a really sharp power curve that misses bats. Didn't start throwing bullpens at LSU until early February when our Saturday guy, Grant Taylor, went down with TJ in a scrimmage one week before the season. He can go 4-5 if he stays in the zone. Career high in pitches is 66 and has only thrown 1 pitch over the last 10 days.
Dutton - Another guy this park could help out. Tons of contact (.369 BA against) but pitched wellish as a freshman. Would hope to avoid using him in the CWS if possible.
Cooper - Y'all saw him last night. pitches to contact and has decent stuff. varying arm angles. has a rubber arm and would routinely go all three games of a weekend in '22.
Hurd - Y'all saw him 2 nights ago. FB up to 97 with good breaking stuff. If he has command, he is very, very good. I think Jay holds him tonight (if possible) and runs him out to start on Thursday.
Skenes - Best pitcher i've seen in my entire life lol.
Our best 2 relievers, Edwards and Shores, are both out for the season. So if you're running through our stats and wondering why I didn't list them, that's why.
