Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Oh lord what kind of drugs are you on now? How could anyone say anything bad about Bob McCreary? And please at least spell the man's name right.

McCreary and Sutton have been great supporters (to say the least) of our football team. How can you fault McCreary for not focusing on basketball? The guy played football at Wake. He is a saint.

My issue with our alums is that we do not support basketball. We have Mit Shah only and no one else stepping up. Ken Miller understandably has moved along. Because of that we need the masses to be in collectively for a proper home venue and ample NIL resources. That we have not done. And that is not Bob McCreary or Ben Sutton's fault. It is our own.
Lol I have always praised them. You are the guy who calls WF donors and sports administration dumb. Can you not comprehend sarcasm?

Here's how you know if you're actually smart as an out of state kid - you don't go to UNC.

If you're that smart and can get in to lots of places, why would you go to UNC from out of state and be surrounded by much less intelligent in state kids and still have to pay the put of state hike.
Easy answer of course. If you want to live in NC, the relationships you build will net you far more money.

Anyone still going to college for the British Lit department?

That's actually a valid point. Almost annually in my eastern N.C. county a kid or two will receive both a Parks (NCSU) and Morehead(UNC) scholarship, and almost invariably they'll take the Morehead. With a Parks scholarship you can go bust your ass to get a degree in electrical engineering or computer sciences along with a bunch of curve-busting foreign students, or with a Morehead you can major in some social sciences stuff with the popped collar crowd and market yourself thereafter as a "Morehead scholar".

I grew up in Eastern NC and never heard of the Parks scholarship until now.

I think someone proposed this earlier but a 20 school, 4 division conference (5 schools per division) could be interesting. Obviously this would be contingent upon adding 5 schools and ND becoming a full member.
- Play one team in each of the other divisions as the first conference games of the year (3 games)
- Play each team in your division (4 games)
- Reserve the week before thanksgiving as a "flex" week like the NFL does with Week 17. The 4 top teams play each other in a semifinal of sorts.
+ Each year set the division matchups ahead of time: West vs South and WEST will be the home team in all games, flip the following year.
+ Leaves the last week for traditional rivals (UGA\GT, South Carolina\Clemson, Louisville\UK, etc).
- The winners of the two semifinal games play conference championship weekend.

West:
- Cal, Stanford, WSU, OSU, SDSU(?)

North:
- Syracuse, Pitt, BC, Notre Dame, Louisville

Carolinas:
- Wake, Duke, State, UNC, Clemson

South:
- Miami, FSU, GT, UVA, VT

From a media stand point each division has a big money player to setup guaranteed meaningful matchups late in the season (in addition to the conference championship). At the very least we'd be thinking outside the box instead of just picking up scraps.
I LOVE this.

However, a consideration for semi final weekend before Thanksgiving is that implies NO in-conference games Thanksgiving weekend. Another option would be to play the semi final games Thanksgiving weekend and have the rivalry games the week before.

Either date would require scheduling cooperation from other conferences.

But still I love this, and think it would make sense for the other P5/4 conferences (conferences too big to be real conferences) as a concept also.

I guarantee that, in that scenario, there would be a 5 team NC and VA division with State, Duke, UNC, UVA, and VT and we’d be grouped with a bunch of schools we don’t care about.

Holding out hope that the smart ACC suits see the obvious next move with the left coast deal apparently dead:

nd and navy for the win!

Get 'er done!!

In the event that it actually needs to be said (and I cannot believe it actually does), you could probably put together the top college football team from continental Europe combined and they'd go winless against an ACC slate.
