Fast Car

food stamps will pay for almost anything edible, unless the rules have changed. no booze though.

Small-town and rural working-class whites love to bitch frequently about how unworthy poors are
this is absolutely true, but the irony isn’t lost that many liberals/Democrats use that truth to bash rural voters and write them off, using the same manufactured class distinctions, but theirs are based on education instead of income. Education isn’t a replacement for class solidarity. Americans didn’t just suddenly lose class consciousness, we have been trained to subdivide ourselves based on make believe distinctions because true class solidarity is a threat to capitalist hierarchies. 72 month car payments and $500 Walmart 65” flatscreen TVs have placated us into believing that we are all middle class, and that culture, race, and work ethic is what divides us. We worship billionaires but seethe with resent for our neighbors.

a lot of the left's messaging doesn't resonate with poor, stupid white people. "white privilege" and "help your neighbor" and "equal rights" is hard to understand when you grew up poor as shit in a trailer and you've never read a book, or your dad lost his coal mining job or whatever, and your life seems pretty crappy. a lot of misplaced anger and the scarcity mindset that other groups of people getting something must necessarily mean my group is losing something.

Crabs in a bucket.

We have hundreds of years of history showing poor rural white people choose racial solidarity, religion, and patriarchy over egalitarian multiracial coalitions.

Small-town and rural working-class whites love to bitch frequently about how unworthy poors are all living it up on welfare programs like food stamps that they pay for with their taxes while they struggle more and more to pay their bills because they're just good, hard-working Real Americans who aren't lazy, won't live off welfare, and so the ungrateful government takes more and more of their money for welfare programs that don't benefit them. Many of them seem to really believe that people on welfare live better than they do, and you can sense the resentment. It's a common complaint that I've heard since I was a kid.

Right. It has been a political goldmine since Reagan stoked this resentment of the poor in the 80s, and Limbaugh threw gas on it through the 90s. It must happen for American conservatism to maintain its hold on its base, along with pseudo religion -based sexual intolerance, and reproductive subservience.

These fears keep the faithful clutching their pearls and pulling the lever for fucking creeps like Tommy Tuberville and Virginia Fox.

As long as I can have perceived superiority over just one group then my life is better is quite the mentality to have.

Yep

Tough to break through when your education is indoctrination.

And when egalitarian multiracial coalitions began to gain traction, they were quelled with violence.

that’s true for us, it’s also historically true for hegemonic racial/religious majorities all throughout the world. There’s nothing natural about white supremacy.

It's not natural. But it's continually reinforced by global violence often against poor rural non-white people in collaboration with hegemonic racial/religious majorities.

But with respect to the US, that's the answer. We've had this argument time and time again on these boards. I think we've reached an obvious tipping point. Consummate New York coastal elite Donald Trump ran on platform of hate and became the beloved candidate of poor rural white people. Once again, they'd rather join with rich men north of Richmond than poor Blacks south of Blacksburg. They're not just going to join leftists, Democrats, liberals or whoever in a multiracial coalition without first dropping racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, as their central position. Any persuasion can't just push class solidarity without realizing hate locks the door. Address hate first then go for class solidarity.

Seems like a link between the “demonic” success of Taylor Swift and Beyonce and the good old fashion Salem Witch Trials. Things haven’t changed much.

seems like the lord would have given him the talent to write more than 1 song since he has a lot of catching up to do.

God works in mysterious ways and He's always right on time. But the devil can make you a superstar with double digit #1 songs.

that's fair. he's also, the best painter ever. his sunsets are always perfect. each one better than the last. wait. he's perfect. they can't get better. but they do. but they can't arrggghhh its going to break my brain.

5 days ago can be an eternity in social media. I wonder what Cindy Sweats thinks of him now that he said "the song wasn't about Joe Biden it was about the (Republicans) on that stage"?
