Game Thread: ODU 12:00 noon 9/16 ESPN2

Wake opens as a 8 point favorites versus GT. See that it’s down to 7 now.

I understand the consternation regarding the play of Mitch Griffis. He was lousy in the first half. The OL was lousy in the first half. Those two observations are often linked.

Mitch frequently looks like an inexperienced QB. I would suggest after four games as the starting QB he remains inexperienced.

The play of the OL and of Mirch Griffis improved in the second half. The team scored 27 points and secured a secured a win.

Better to look lousy and win than look lousy and lose.

This isn’t Georgia or Alabama, we don’t have All American recruits lined up behind Mitch just waiting to steal his spot. He won the job, and pretty obvious the coaching staff has more trust and patience with him than the posters on this board.
Yeah we’ll just bring in a 5 star transfer to take Mitch’s job

So we’re amending your comment away from 5 stars?

That’s a start. You go ahead and list out the likely 4 star transfers
I said 4 or 5 stars you dolt. And this also doesn’t include possible 2 or 3 star HS recruits that end up becoming 4 star transfer recruits.
Devin Brown (tOSU), Walker Howard(LSU -> Ole Miss), Gunnar Stockton (UGA), Nick Evers (Okla -> Wisco), Maalik Murphy (Texas), Brady Allen (Purdue -> UL), Kaitlin Houser (Mich St) -> Tayven Jacksen (Tenn -> IU), AJ Duffy (FSU), Holdon Geriner (Aub), Sam Horn (Mizz), Jacurri Brown (Mia), Justyn Martin (UCLA), Zach Pyron (GT)

So: guy who didn't really look good with best receivers in CFB, transfer that's behind a broken man in Spencer Sanders, who knows with UGA QBs, transfer, Murphy probably starts next year if Ewers declares, transfer riding the bench, guy who couldn't beat out Noah Kim, starter, Duffy is fighting for the starter job next year at FSU, Auburn's QBs are just ungood, Horn is alright(?), Brown might start at Miami next year if TVD declares, Martin has gotten passed up by a freshman and a transfer, Pyron wasn't good enough to beat out Haynes King.

So the best option there is maybe a super unproven guy in Stockton or Horn who wasn't good enough to win his QB battle? And that's before even touching the transferring in and losing credits portion of things.

I think we see the flashy lights of Sam/Penix/Nix/Caleb but in reality, the transfer QB market is extremely stinky. 3 reasons for them to enter the portal: they stunk at their old place and need somewhere to go, they want a bag from somewhere, or they already know where they're going.
Hope I’m wrong, but I’d bet that quite a few of these players end up having better careers than Griffis.

Yeah you said 4 or 5 star. So which 5 star?

Dolt

Hahahaha you don’t know what or means hahahaha.

One would think some 4 or 5 star transfer recruits would be salivating to play in our offense given the numbers they could put up, and WR development.

Anyways, it’s not happening, so go Mitch! A lot of us, including me, wanted Wolford benched for good for Hinton, and that worked out pretty well. Though, at that time, we were much more of “startup” program than we are now. Hope Griffis proves a lot of us wrong and is elite.

ETA: I also think the QB competition helped Wolford, as it did Newman and Hartman. If there was any sort of competition whatsoever, Kern would have played yesterday.

Because they're 4-5 stars or because you've watched them? And that's not meant to be argumentative, it's a genuine question because I don't know what Mitch will become. I think he'll be very good, but 4 games in who the hell knows. One of my favorite examples is how Kenny Hill looked at TAMU following Manziel. Dude crushed for 4 games including a win over SCar and then just stunk. On the other side you have Bo Nix who frankly lost Auburn games, absolutely stunk on the road, and yet now is a Heisman candidate. This position is just so fickle and I think just having someone list a bunch of dudes who were tall, athletic, and could throw a ball in high school and go "yeah I bet quite a few of those guys have a better career than someone actively starting and hasn't been relatively fine" isn't necessarily the best process?

Especially when a chunk of the guys listed currently aren't good enough at their own schools to start and almost half the list their school got a transfer quarterback or two to play over them versus thinking they'd have a good shot at competing for the job. That feels a bit off to me

We’d have to completely change our offense for a transfer coming in. Them learning what we are doing with the slow mesh and being good enough that quickly seems unlikely.

Some may say that’s a good thing to change the offense, but a) we’ve scored a lot of points a lot of years in a row; and b) I’m not sure about the O-line talent most years if we wanted to go more traditional.

I know what “or” means.

If you list two things separated by “or”, then in the context of your sentence it means you believe both of them to be plausible.

Now you are apparently admitting that a 5 star is not plausible. If you think your original sentence holds up, then…

That’s a shame for my Wake Forest degree. And Bless your heart.

Also, your original statement was 4 or 5 stars who were in the bench for a power program. These guys are increasing their rating while riding pine. So you clearly were not referring to transfers who increased their value at another school.

So, we’ve established that you don’t understand basic English and that you are full of shit.

I’m going to keep mocking your 5-star comment.

It's only a Tier 2 degree, calm down.

I just rewatched a good bit of the 2nd half thanks to YTTV fast forward. I wanted to see our defense when I was not in a bad emotional state with this game.

Our defense actually played a hell of a half and Davis looks very promising. He had some HUGE defensive plays and was near the ball constantly.
Defense got great pressure on their QB as the 10 sacks show. Just glad he overthrew a few bombs because our DB’s were beat quite often.
