Spend a lot of time in the OBX with family, going from WS each time. OBX is awesome but it's 5 hours if everything goes perfect, generally closer to 5.5/6. It's a haul.

3.5 to sunset beach feels amazing. But OBX is great once you're there.

I have officially gotten to the age where I’d much rather be at the beach during winter. I tire of the interminable Appalachian winters.

we're in the process of buying new fall/winter clothes for our son and it's like, ugh he's gonna be wearing these til at least April.

Outer Banks or Asheville/west depending on season and my mood. I voted Outer Banks because that's basically home. It's definitely worth the extra drive time.

If I had to vote for an urban area, the Triangle is going to win every single time.

yes I went with Triad just because it is still "home" even if I haven't lived in NC in forever, and I split the coast and the mountains. Otherwise 421 split --- Boone area and Wilmington area.

Not to monkey wrench it but is the question a) best part for a weekend/week? Or b) best part I would like to live in? If the former, I’d go Highlands or BHI if the latter, definitely Raleigh/Triangle.

Having grown up in far northwestern NC I voted Boone/Blowing Rock, but I really prefer Ashe County and the New River area in NC. Not as crowded or overdeveloped, at least yet. I have relatives that live in the Asheville area and it's also nice with great scenery, but it's getting pretty crowded. For urban areas I'd agree that the Triangle is best.

Fall, winter, spring…prefer the coast, generally.

Summer…mountains, generally.

Golf in Pinehurst in the fall is one of the best things NC has to offer (for those that partake).
We are so incredibly spoiled with the quality and quantity of courses here. Wisconsin and Michigan match up in these terms, but you have limited seasons in both and we can play basically all year here with the odd snowstorm or frost delay being the only inconvenience.

I shudder when I see people talking about dropping a few hundred bucks to play a six hour round at borderline goat tracks in some states. For the same price here you can get out on Mid Pines, Pine Needles, etc.
