Pitt Game Thread

I wish they would line up in the I formation and run the ball a little. We have some quality depth and it would take some pressure off the qb's who are struggling. Run some play action to also give the line some help

Someone needs to explain to me why we moved this guy to RB then to DB then to LB and finally back to QB after people transferred. He isn’t a terrible QB. By no means am I an outing him the starter or even an above average QB but the way people were talking about him made it sound like he hit himself in the face every time he attempted a pass.
this made me laugh so hard I almost soiled myself

In other positive news, Clawson is feeding the best running back we’ve had since Walker. And Carney is getting some run on short yardage. AND we ran some very cool plays in some of the short yardage situations for successful conversions.
Santino had an awesome block on the end around/reverse call. . . . kept that drive alive. that dude made a lot of plays that game!

A suggestion for why. John Dell in the local print media called Marucci cocky. I am betting that Marucci doesn't fit the tone of Clawson's system as well as the other guys who wear humilty better or actually are humble. Marucci is very self confident in the tradition of Alphonso Smith but I would not say he is cocky and I think Dell gets it wrong to say cocky. I guess this coaching staff has less patience with Marucci because of his strong personality. Hence, any errors by Marucci are blown out of proportion by you know who. But a coaching staff needs to work with the talent not the demeanor. Besides, Marucci has a lot of tangibles and intangibles Griffis does not have. He is a gamer not a practice guy. And Marucci offered the spark Clawson was seeking, and did so in a fashion that teammates actually carried him off the field in a win fitting for Clawson's actual game plan to keep it close to the end.

This past homecoming weekend some of the old QBs from the past were there, and they're still just as you described which I highly appreciate.

absolutely correct call btw

The guy had offers from schools like Nebraska and Kentucky for a reason. Much better than Griffis' and Kern's offer lists.

This is such a reach. What a weird post.

is the guy acting weird in the press box working for that Dawgs blog or whatever that guy was recruiting for on here this summer?

I understand that Marucci made some impressive plays at the end that led us to winning the game, and I'm very happy he did. But I'm not sure I understand anyone that is clamoring for him to be the starter moving forward.

Marucci's final stat line was 12/21 for 151 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. He rushed the ball 6 times for 9 yards. During his first attempt at a game winning drive, he threw a pretty terrible INT on a first down when we were already nearly in FG range and had plenty of time. If Pitt's QB wasn't an absolute buffoon, he doesn't get a second chance at winning the game and the narrative here is very very different.

Both Griffis and Kern are more than capable of doing what Marucci did on Saturday, which was mostly hand the ball to Claiborne and Ellison. You can argue that the risk-averse run-based offense should be what we do moving forward regardless of which QB it is, but I don't see a meaningful reason that we should do it with Marucci instead of either of the other 2.
