2023-2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Thread

FSU just lost by 16 to a USF team that lost its last three games to Maine, Hofstra, and UMass.

I love the ACC, but this is why I can’t take seriously the posters that try making the case that the Big Ten/ Big 12/ SEC are overrated and the ACC is underrated. Those conferences don’t have 5+ teams taking losses like that each season, the ACC does.

The Jason Benetti/Robbie Hummel combo is my second favorite announcing pairing below whomever is working with Bill Raftery and Bill Raftery.

Haha! You’re right! Although I haven’t thought the Big 12 is overrated.
The problem I have is the contradictions between football and bball. ACC may have a bottom half problem in bball, but the Big 10 certainly has that in football and they don’t get dinged for it. On the flip side we’ve been pretty strong top-to-bottom in football yet we always get slammed for it. We still have a strong top in bball which is basically just like the SEC and Big 10 in football.

There’s a number of differences between football and basketball that make this a not very good comparison, including the postseason formats.

The problem for the ACC is that these bottom teams in basketball keep losing to garbage teams like USF and DePaul but then will inevitably win a few games against bubble ACC teams, which is a hit to those teams’ resumes. If every other ACC team blows out ND and Louisville this season, it won’t matter as much how bad they are. But for the unlucky team that has a bad night against one of them, it just tanks your resume.

That's not how it feels, so facts don't matter

Yeah I mean Louisville and Notre Dame are awful, barely top 200 teams in the country, and they're projected to win 4 ACC games still. Now we can hope that those games just come against each other/GT/Cuse - other bad teams, but the reality is that they're going to upset a bubble team or two which is honestly just a terrible loss for anybody trying to put together a tournament resume.

This is spot on for me.
