Charlotte bringing players in from some serious schools. . . .

could be busts, but could payoff big, all decently ranked. I know its all optics at this point, but wonder what they are doing to secure these players from these schools that we aren't. . . .

I am confident Wake has the $$ to compete with UNC Charlotte. . .

Would be nice if these thumb nails gave academic status of these guys. Would be useful info with respect to whether Wake could have been interested. As we know, the academic side of Wake puts some limits on who Clawson can likely get into Wake.

I would still love to know why Forbes doesn’t seem to have this problem. We are taking plenty of bball guys after their Sophomore or Junior year. Any insight, @CONeill?

I can't come up with a single guy after his junior year. It's been all guys after freshman/sophomore year or grad transfers.
Could it potentially be easier in hoops since there are so many more opportunities for guys to go pro somewhere after their college career as opposed to football? Maybe a player isn't as worried about losing credits if his plan is to play pro ball somewhere for awhile and finish his degree later? I don't know, just speculating.

Good question and one I don't really have an answer to.

I know Forbes gets more latitude in admissions than his predecessor (probably plural, but I just know of Manning's tenure). Can't imagine admissions is more willing to work with the coach in his fourth year than the one who's put in a decade, though.

It's something we probably need to ask Clawson. Part of the answer -- stressing "part" -- might be along the lines of what @liveanddiedeac is saying, that it tends to be more of a priority for football players to graduate than basketball players. If you're required to put in at least 3 years of college, might as well do everything you can to graduate, especially if your sport has such a short average career. Basketball has more pro opportunities and you can leave whenever, go be a pro for X years, come back and finish your degree whenever.

I would take all of the first four. Credit to Charlotte for doing work

So misleading to judge transfers by the school they are transferring from without more.

With 85 ships, there are plenty of players at every program that are total duds. Yes, even at Bama, UGA and tOSU. Maybe all of the CLT's transfers are studs coveted by everyone, but would guess that unless the CLT transfers have a connection with Biff or an assistant coach, these transfers were buried behind the 3 deep, and there was little interest in these players from Power V schools. That said, everyone wants to play, and with the NCAA making it more difficult for a second transfer, some guys will transfer to school where PT is guaranteed versus going to a school where they have to compete for a spot.

I think you’re right, but Clawson suggests that he can’t even take guys after their sophomore year and we’ve had plenty of those.

Yes to the QB, the Clemson and Tennesse guys both had multiple starts this year, and the A&M guy was suspended all season.

Boise State's current (well, he was the current QB for the MWC Championship) also hopped to a PV program:

FWIW, while there are questions about Bachmeier, I like him better than Green. Green is horrible (57% 11 TDs 9 picks -- against MWC defenses). Boise State won the MWC because they had the best RB in college football than no one heard of Ashton Jenty. He will play in the NFL, and do damage. Jenty's backup, Geore Holani, is better than 75% of the starting running back's on P5 programs. Boise won in spite of Green.

Drake Maye entering the draft. Unsurprising. Didn’t think he was very good this year.

I think it has to do with the prevalence of redshirting in football v. Basketball. A junior might have 3 years of credit that may not transfer, which puts them off track to graduate.

Guys may arrive with two years of eligibility, hence would be a "junior." However, if they did a redshirt year plus three years of summer school, they could be very close to having sufficient credits to graduate. Possibly 108 of the 120 most schools require. However, with Wakes unwillingness to accept transfer credits, they may only get 60 to transfer to Wake. Big difference.
