WF MBB - Game 13 - @BC 7pm Tuesday ACCN

My gamer from the back halls of Conte Forum at Boston College.

Preview: Andrew Carr hadn’t made a shot all night. He was 0-3, wrestled with foul trouble and generally looked uncomfortable. But, that didn't matter when Boopie Miller passed him the ball with 12 seconds left. For one shot, Carr looked just fine.

I largely don’t complain about officiating but tonight we really didn’t get many at all of the 50/50s as I said. There were plenty of contact calls that happened back to back that went uncalled on one end and then were whistles on the other. The wake bench was furious in the first half
Games ebb & flow and coaches do their thing as they should. It’s the typical fan who always thinks their team is being shit on during a game. We had two FF type officials in our game tonight so I don’t think they gave a shit who won. Just called what they saw. Reid is foul prone. But with what he alters, I will take it.

Let me translate Reff's post- WAAAAH Skip didn't like me....I'll keep attacking him long after he died and try to say He Who Shall Not Be Named Part Deux is a better coach. Of course after 20+ years of reffing, I still have to call HS girl's JV games due to my understanding of basketball.

Outstanding win on the road.

The Deacs shot the ball well from everywhere the entire game. Otherwise this was a tale of two halves. First half the defense lacked intensity and everyone seemed a step slow. Rebounding was a weakness, especially on the offensive boards. Too many dumb turnovers. Let's hope Cam got that out of his system. Second half everything improved. The only second half downside was in the final three minutes. Claudell Harris hit two threes and a two while Wake missed shots and a 10 point Deacon lead became a one point lead with 40 seconds remaining. Boopie let the clock run, drove down the lane and made the pass to AC in the corner. Carr canned the three with 12 seconds remaining for a four point lead. Cam iced it with a steal and a layup. The Deacs took control late in a manner seldom seen on the road over the past 13 years and acted like it was no big deal. They knew they were the better team and showed it.

This team has me actively involved and cheering while watching them on the tube and it feels good. I surprised myself. I guess you're never too old.

I mean I don’t think they cared who won I just think they missed some calls
No, they missed a lot of calls, and if they had any doubt, they ruled against Wake. Almost every out-of-bounds play in the second half was given to BC. Our best players were repeatedly called for non-existent, Mr. Ref he-breathed-on-me fouls. That's just bad officiating. No way around it. These refs either had a really bad off night, or they just stink at reffing.

Reff, do you think this was a well-called game? Why or why not?

He’s not in the way since ball is at our end and he’s imploring his team to play D. Trail official saw him and waved him back to his box. They are not looking to ruin a good non-contentious game with a T right there.
Why not? They did their best up to that point.

Wanted to add that Keller gave us solid minutes again. I’m genuinely shocked and thrilled at his progression lately. It’s huge to have him be able to come in and not feel like the team is going to fall apart while Reid or Carr is on the bench.

Up to #58 in the NET, one spot behind Gonzaga. I haven’t seen the Zags play this year, but I’m guessing they would like to have this version of Sallis and probably Reid.

WF Is currently the 7th best team in NET, closing in on UVA, Miami, and the fraudsters in Pittsburgh.

Another big game this weekend. Go Deacs.

Post put his forearm in Reid's throat at least once backing him down in the paint. Post was allowed to play a lot more physical in the paint, hooking his arm around defenders and bumping them hard to establish position. Wake rarely, if at all, was allowed to do that last night.

They absolutely would like to have Sallis - Hickman and Nembhard are eating up all the mins at the 1 and 2 and Nembhard couldn't hit the ocean jumping out of a boat right now.

The most inexplicable was the missed likely flagrant 1 (or just common foul) when Zachary elbowed Cam in the face/neck. They had been jawing all night too so it was insane they didn’t even take a look at it.

Then the next play down they call an extremely weak 4th foul on Boopie. Just horrible officiating.

We certainly got the benefit of a couple calls too - the critical 1 and 1 Reid got to shoot was kind of a weird phantom call and the no-call travel on Cam’s fast break led to a huge PFred 3.

great win. Certainly helps the students were on break, loved the atmosphere for wake
