The absolutely comical no-call was the absolute cherry on top of this game and season.

People saying that this season is the end of wake fandom?

Get a grip people. How tf did you survive bzz and manning and but can’t survive this?

Weirdos man

I suspect for most it’s renewed disappointment after feeling like we could be on our way back to relevance and being a real factor in the ACC after the lost decade. Now even making the tournament just feels like such a remote possibility when it’s a fairly routine achievement for above average programs. Definitely a discouraging end to a season with a lot of missed opportunities.

Just got up to pee. Shouldn’t have checked the boards. Also how much privilege do you have if you’re going to sit courtside at an NBA game and you don’t even casually mention it to your father?

The posters claiming that Forbes made them care about Wake basketball again are the same ones who make it a point of pride to not get upset after a loss. Doesn’t add up to me.

You can get excited about watching sports and be hopeful but also have the ability to step back and realize that losing isn't the end of the world. It's not that hard to understand. It helps that I (and any other Deacon fan) have years and years of practice at this point. How visibly upset you get after a loss or setback isn't a barometer for caring, it's just a barometer for how you handle big emotions as an adult.

Prior to Forbes I wasn't excited or hopeful and could barely summon the energy to check when we had a game. Feels good to at least be somewhat invested and have other people invested too (friends that actually want to watch games w/me! bars that will actually put games on and not ask to turn them off because we're down 30 at the half! The Joel sold out!). I'm not gonna let a disappointing end to the season ruin those glimpses of fun and hope. I'll remember the good and forget the bad because otherwise what's the point except to torture myself? Hopefully one day we'll finally have more good than bad ion basketball and I'll get even more joyous memories (Wake Soccer Natty Champ! Our run to Omaha last year!).

I disagree that you can temper your negative emotions to such an extent without also tempering the positive. For an online sports forum it’s just a weird buttoned up vibe.

Its just weird how streaky these guys are. Like Boopie was an all world beater in the beginning of the season. And Carr will drop 30 on Duke, then you can't remember him out there today. It's almost like its SPORTS

A major component of therapy (largely CBT? IDK?) for me has been giving me a toolbox to deal with uncomfortable emotions that helps reframe, minimize, or work through them in a healthier way. Notably, I don't have to blunt the parts of my life that give me joy to do that. IDK if I'm fortunate or unfortunate that it just so happens that it is pretty trivial for me to apply that toolbox and take a step back from negative sports emotions in comparison to all the other reasons I have to be upset week-to-week.

Full disclosure I'm not on any medications (yet lol) and am capable of feeling some low-fucking-lows right now, so I promise I'm not some robot.

I mean emotional regulation is a tool/coping mechanism that you can develop in cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy models. I think I’ve learned how to recognize and reframe frustration that used to cause explosive emotional reactions a bit better than how I was raised to.

College kids.

None of us should allow a bunch of 18-22s determine what kind of mood we are in. I still am passionate and care greatly. I hurl around my fucks and GDs when we are failing, but it's becoming pretty easy to recover after the games.

To paraphrase Dave Odom...He would tell his team before games that the next 2 hours there's nothing more important than beating {insert opponent}, but after the game try to realize how I significant it is in the big picture of life. Something like that

feelin real good about my sage counsel to my client to sell all his ETH like 2 months ago
