WFU Hoops: '24-'25 Roster Construction Thread: (-) Carr, Monsanto, Ituka, Clark, Miller, Marsh, Keller, Canka / (+) Spillers, Biliew, Cosby

I mean...what else can we do other than run our dead weight off, being back our top contributors(minus Sallis), and add 3 guys from the portal who can help out? + Juke

Are you saying find a few guys in the portal to start over Reid, Boopie and others?

Don't we need to see how every team's roster shakes out before making projections about conference records?

Creamy's minutes projections are always, uh, fluid.

You can't criticize Michelangelo for a poor sculpture until you see the completed work.
See you get it.

Very few sports topics drum up more conversations than my minutes projections. Other than 2&2 and DR doing their thing for clicks

I agree with your first point and agree that’s more or less all we can do. I just don’t personally think it’ll be enough to get us where we want to go, unfortunately, at least not next season.

meh

don't hate the player hate the game

My dislike for Pedulla is more about his antics vs. Wake Forest last year.

I have no problem with him trying to get paid to stay at VT, but that tweet just feels scummy and transparent to me.

But sure, I am pre-disposed to thinking he's a douche canoe.

Catoor has an even more punchable face I think. But yeah Pedulla is a tool

I don't really get this opinion at all. This Wake team was on the verge of the tournament this year, and they almost unquestionably would have made it if they had performed to expectations on the road.

If the only guy Wake loses for next season is Sallis, everyone that returns makes some sort of developmental jump, and Wake adds Juke + a few meaningful portal guys, I think it's more likely than not that next year's team ends the season in a better place than this year's team did.

I'm of the belief that Kidd is a bit of a clubhouse cancer and suspect he'll end up at a basketball factory type school and be just OK.

Not comparing him to Sarr in terms of character, but I could see a similar outcome for him. Lots of hype as he joins a school like UK, and then mediocre performance.

He's also a traffic cone on defense right? The main reason Wake destroyed VT in that one game is because they literally couldn't stop Wake in the paint.

I imagine the value of an elite post scorer but bad defender that can't shoot is way less to coaches than it is to fans.

I totally understand being down on Wake given the disappointing finish that has become a sort of tradition.

But yeah, if the only piece you lose is Sallis (admittedly an important piece), and you bring in 1-3 contributors from the portal, expectations should be high for next season.

Full year of a healthy Cam (hopefully). Full year of Reid. Carr is a grown ass man. Boopie gets an offseason to improve after making the jump to the ACC. Parker continues to go through puberty. MMM makes a jump to where is playable (at the very least). Juke earns a few minutes. All of that seems reasonable... And that's before adding anyone. Throw in a ball handling guard, a rotation big, and a BPA (wing?)... Boom. ACC Championship and Final Four.

Sallis mocked at 50. Compared to Spur Maliki Branham. Says he needs to work on his playmaking.

If we get a playmaking wing like Sallis was supposed to be, we won’t really need a PG willing to be a backup.

I don't remember Sallis being heralded as a playmaking wing, but maybe that is what we called him because it was thought that he was an athletic bricklayer who played strong defense.

i think "meaningful portal guys" is doing the heavy lifting here. if the best player on next year's squad is already on our roster and is not named hunter sallis, i think it's very unlikely we have the pieces to be a good team (which we kinda saw in the last game against UGA). maybe the one hope is if hildreth was heavily hindered by his injury and is amazing next year and we solve our depth issues via the portal, but not optimistic about that.

on the other hand, i think we do have a really good supporting cast -- if we can get the next alondes/appleby/salls (i.e. a lead guard who is our best player) and add some depth, then i think we could be really good.

Yes, please....

6-6 guard that can shoot and take it to the rack. As close to Sallis as you will find:

Vandy has to be the favorite, but no one can sell "We will get you ready for the NBA" better than WF.

I want this so bad. Talk about upping the physicality of our lineup. Dude is an absolute dog.
