Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

So how can the ACC get ahead with gambling? Why not sell out all the way?

What did you have in mind? Wonder which leagues have the highest % of schools where sports betting is legal. That’s an interesting question I think.

Didn’t want to start a new thread, so this is as good/bad as anywhere to post this:
I’m an “old school” Wake fan/supporter and lifelong NC resident, so I still view our relative strength in athletics in how we stack up against our Big Four neighbors. If the cornerstone of an athletics program is football, men /women basketball and baseball, reality is that Duke, UNC and NCSU all made bowl games this year, they went 6 for 6 in getting both their basketball programs in the NCAA tournament, and we’ve already dropped both our baseball series to our Big Four opponents. It’s always been a challenge to keep up with the triangle schools in terms of fan support and media coverage, but in the age of conference realignment and NIL I fear we may become the equivalent of Boston College trying to compete for relevance with the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. Hate to be so negative, but a total baseball collapse followed by another 4-8 type football season, and we’ll be looking at a low point in terms of support and morale. These things can be cyclical (NCSU was where we are not too long ago), so there’s always hope.

We spent a good part of the middle of last decade there.

The sad truth is our cornerstone programs have each reached relative high points over the last four seasons and each have either fallen off completely or are barely hanging on.
Yep, Knew several years back when Clawson said football was going from good to great, the results would not be pleasant.

There was no reason back then to believe things would fall off like this. Clawson isn't a perfect coach, but the main problem last season was that he completely overrated his anointed QB and his ability to get any QB to run his system.

I am 70 y/o, and resigned to the fact that in my lifetime remaining we will probably not like NCSU make a final four in men's basketball, and no way in Hades we make one in women's basketball. l also am aware that the way college fb is being constructed we will never make a 12-24 team playoff in football even if our performance should have us in the conversation , and by all apperarances our baseball program is based on a smoke and mirrors laboratory that is not built for longterm success. I will continue to go to every football game each season, and a handful of other games in most of the other sports regardless of our conference affiliation, but I'm now doing it more out of habit, a chance to meet up with liftetime Wake friends and a love of all that is WFU including sports. But my expectations for recriprocal satisfaction from winning at a high level is pretty much out the window at this point.

Agree PH, but Clawson must have been practicing a version of insanity when he keeps doing the same thing over and over again during multiple games hoping for a different result.

That being said I think Chip Kelly has/had it right. It’s too late now, but NCAA football should have created their own super league/season and left schools/conferences in place for everything else. Football and the schools could still make their money, rivalries and geographical conferences stay in place. Oh well

I think this is will be what happens

Sadly, this is where i am as well. . .

I truly hope i am wrong, and certainly my allegiance nor my commitments will ever change, I will be at every football game, and a handful of basketball and baseball games as I can afford them for my family of 5, but as a wake fan for over 40 years, this seems to be reality.
