Looking at this year's players in future

Our best hope at being good next year is if this is our best line up:

1/2 - CMM
1/2 - CJ
3/4 - Moto
3/4 - Travis
5 - Devin

I'm guessing you haven't seen much of Moto yet? Meaning, he's far more of a 4 right now than Travis.

Pending actually getting to see the frosh play, I agree with this lineup, even though 3 rookies starting could be stalling out our NCAA hopes. Nice distraction thread by rj.

I mean Travis is a straight up tweener. The footage of Moto I have seen he has a man's body and he is a good glass cleaner so he is tweenerish as well. Tweener is usually used as a deragatory word but I think we could use it to our advantage.

Isn't weird how that seems to happen for Wake and only Wake?

OT, but Bz and co., can we just get a true wing already???

It's not necessarily a bad thing. It depends on whether as a tweener you can guard two positions effectively or you can't really guard either position effectively. Moto's scouting report sounds like he can guard multiple positions and so can Travis.

Chase's lack of D was why were behind at the half. He let his man/space open for at least ten points in the first half.

I didn't say Devin was a true center. I also mentioned Carson playing away from the hoop on OFFENSE not defense like you are saying.

Saying Travis isn't a star is mindboggling. His improvement from last year is clear.

I love CJ but he's the tweener.

Fields has yet to show he can lead a team.

If you notice most of tony's shotr come at the end of the clock with no one demanding the ball. He looks for Tavis, CJ or Chase to b e calling for the ball.

Travis is not an elite wing player. He is a good player and you have to love the heart. But Wake has to have at least one star player to compete for the upper half of the league. He is not that. He has to really improve on the one on one stuff to be elite.

Fields may be something. He needs to play and see what he can do. Either he or TC has to see there is no pt.

Then we need to get 2 4* guys for 13 then a star in 14. Meeks/Freeman/Gill/McClinton

That is what we have to see to get progress.

there is so much wrong with this i don't even know where to begin.

Don't know what games you've been watching, but Travis finishes in the low-post, whether he's double teamed or one-on-one. There are definitely holes in his game (small holes.) but I would not consider one-one-one stuff a hole in Travis' game. Mid-range offense, maybe. But the development of a mid-range offense will make him unstoppable. He's already elite.

Right now Travis is trying to do too much; but he knows he must! His ball handling is a serious weakness. But he is very good and has a tremendous future if he stays healthy.

There wasn't even enough in his post for their to be "so much" wrong with it. And he was right. McKie is a good player, but it's hard to imagine a top ACC team having him as a top scoring option -- he just can't score on his own.

That doesn't mean he can't be a great player -- AFA was the same way offensively (although he made up for it with his unbelievable impact on defense). McKie's just not a guy who can create for himself.

CJ is the only player we have who can create for himself....well, TC can create, he just can't shoot

TC can create this:

Travis has done a great job at the 4 spot. He does finish in the low post. He has been great. Unfortunately this is against mid major talent. He is not a 4. At the wing he has not shone the ability to take a guy one on one under pressure. He had a bad turnover vs. Dayton and missed the 3 badly vs. NE.

Now dont misunderstand - I love Travis. He is the type of guy that you can build around. I'm just saying that he is not a star and we need a star beside him. A guy that can beat anyone under pressure even when their d is great.

Travis is a glue guy.
Chase is a terrifying shooter. These guys are great to have on your team.
CJ - solid college player
Carson - developing high post

Fields - lets see what he can do
TC - Solid kid but not ACC. Wish it were different.
Green - Good student - redshirt next year

We have 4 guys for a 9 man rotation on a championship team. It is about winning championships. Thats what we have to build to. Everything else is bullshit. If we can recruit in 13 and 14 then we will be showing progress.

Buzz will coach them.

We need 2 4* guys in 13 and a star in 14.

Haha. At first, my thought was that he just has a terrible vertical. But on second look, it appears he never actually left the ground. It's a layup attempt while standing, or something like that.

And the guy who is blocking did not have to jump either. And Diaz was coming over to swat that shit for good measure.

The quintessential TC photo.

The shortcomings of Travis and CJ hurts their chances in the NBA draft which helps our efforts to rebuild. CMM has great scoring skills but according to a recent video expects Coach Battle to mold him into an Acc pg. We will have some better talent to add in next season but with so many new parts it looks like the 2013 team will have to learn to play together as a unit.

He was not right, Travis is an elite player, right now. He had 25 today. Maybe we have different definitions of "elite", but I would consider a guy who is second in the conference in scoring to be pretty damn good, and certainly elite.

Chase seems to play with smarts and intensity. Pretty good passer. Great shooter. Seems to show some leadership as well, even at this early juncture. I suspect he'll log plenty of time over the next years, starter or not.

Agree that at times TC seems to avoid passing him the ball. But maybe this is as intended? He's got a better chance of receiving the ball in position to shoot if he's not the first pass, yes?

CJ and Travis are starting till they leave, barring injury, IMO.
