Our next BIG GAME against High Point

I just don't get it. They're in the middle of something like a $900m building plan but have a $50m endowment? Where's the money coming from and how will they keep the lights on with such a small buffer?

Every time I've heard Nido speak, he brags that they aren't taking on debt.

How is that possible in a 2.1b building plan with only 172mm in donations?

Any teams fans will do the same after last season. I don't see where the problem is with this. You can make pretty decent arguments that WF has lost to some pretty solid teams so far.

Maybe he means unfunded debt? Sounds like they have really jacked-up tuition so much of that must be going to debt service.

Elon is the only one with anything to be worried about. High Point is a long, long way from Davidson or Wake Forest. The whole thing sounds pretty fishy to me.

Yea, I really doubt there's any consternation from Davidson or Wake. They offer completely different things to young students.

I'm with TBR though. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

I don't understand why anyone would ever pay $40k to go to High Point or Elon. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but 40k is a crap ton of money to spend on a mediocre education. I really wrestled with spending that much to attend Wake which, in my totally biased opinion, offers one of the better educations around.

I love how they say the guy understands the importance of education when the entire article just lists off things he's raised money for to turn the university into a fancy resort. Notice how none of the students they talked with said anything about academics as a reason for choosing High Point.

So last year we beat High Point by 16 at home... this year we won by 4 away?

Going in the right direction? I guess UNC Wilmington will be a good test as pathetic as that sounds.

I understand someone who is not familiar with Elon would call it a "mediocre" education and I agree that its ridiculous for someone to pay $40k (its actually around 30K and has received numerous times awards for being one of the best value private schools in the country) for a degree from there in a major of study like communications or history, etc.. But Elon has an extremely strong accounting program as well as fully accredited business school (Finance is weak at Elon I will admit). I was able to receive a full-time job right out of Elon in finance as well as get into Wake business school and it IS offensive to even compare Elon and High Point's education quality.

No Elon is not Wake, but it is immensely better than the Carnival Cruise Ship school HP is running. I would do a little research before you bash a school you know nothing about.

I think my favorite quote comes from the student body president, who says he didn't study much as a high school senior.

Yes, Elon like admissions standards are where HPU is headed in the next years. They are going to cap growth at 5000 undergrads and then raise the SAT scores. Don't bet against them.

Sorry to offend you, just expressing my honest opinion. I think spending 40k to go to a private regional college/university isn't worth the expense. I wouldn't have gone to Wake for 40k had it not given me a hearty financial aid package.

Well I completely agree with you that private college tuition costs are WAY too high, but if people continue to fork out the cash and most are allowed to stack up HUGE student debt that they will never be able to repay with a shitty major you cant fault the colleges for having high prices. Private Colleges are being allowed to operate inefficiently and not cost competitively due to many reasons that are not their fault.

That aside, Elon isn't 40k, its less than 30k. For the amount of hot, rich northern tail there it is well worth it... oh yeah and the education too..

I knew plenty of people who funded their private education solely through debt and decided to major in comm or art or whatever. Not to knock on those majors if thats what you really love, but you have to be an idiot to put yourself in this market with those low paying jobs with that amount of debt. I have no sympathy for those people who are not complaining about not being able to find work with enough income to pay off 200g..

Just to be clear, I wasn't at all trying to put down Elon with my post, just saying that High Point has to get to Elon's level before Wake and Davidson need to worry about them, and that's a long road in itself.

I mean it clearly offers a better education than High Point

A HPU grad recently said that the stated goal for HPU was to become a cross between WFU and BC. Just thought I'd throw that one out there ...
