Week 17 NFL

Draft Order:

Indianapolis Colts: 2-14
St. Louis Rams: 2-14
Minnesota Vikings: 3-13
Cleveland Browns: 4-12
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 4-12
Washington Redskins: 5-11
Jacksonville Jaguars: 5-11
Carolina Panthers: 6-10
Miami Dolphins: 6-10
Buffalo Bills: 6-10
Arizona Cardinals: 7-9
Kansas City Chiefs: 7-9
Philadelphia Eagles: 8-8
New York Jets: 8-8
Seattle Seahawks: 8-8
San Diego Chargers: 8-8
Oakland Raiders: 8-8 (Cincinnati's pick)
Chicago Bears: 8-8
New York Giants (if they lose Sunday night): 8-8
Dallas Cowboys (if they lose Sunday night): 8-8
Tennessee Titans: 9-7 (will be No. 20)

When I look at this list, the only thing that comes to mind is how many future draft picks Shanahan and Snyder will trade in order to move up to take RGIII.

I can't wait to find out what the Colts do. They just can't afford Manning and Luck.

Yeah I kind of wish we were picking above the Redskins so maybe we could have fleeced them so they could move up, but as it stands they probably could stand pat and have a pretty good chance to take RGIII.

early lines: steelers -7.5
texans -3
saints -9.

Maybe under the old system, but rookie QBs cost a lot less now. Don't think the Colts can pass up on him

Looking at that list, to me, the skins will be able to take RGIII where they are now. All of them have a QB of the future, except Indy. And we know Indy will take Luck. The only iffy team is Cleveland. But I think they have faith in McCoy.

I hope for the sake of Browns fans everywhere that they don't. That team was more competitive with Seneca Wallace than with McCoy. Of course, the Browns need an upgrade at literally every skill position on the offensive side of the ball, so who's counting. Trent Richardson would look pretty decent in a Browns uniform (proverbially speaking, of course; no one actually looks good in those things).

32 Opinions

Pats - I really hate the way they make me green with envy. Send some of that mojo to DC.
Jets - I am so tired of hearing about the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. What a joke of a team.
Fins - At least they finished the season on a positive note.
Bills - No one circles the wagons like... ah, screw it, we're out.
Ravens - Which Flacco will show up in the playoffs?
Steelers - They should be ok without Mendenhall at least the first game. The Tebow miracle machine seems to have a jam.
Bengals - Holy jehoshapahat, batman! How did the Bengals make the playoffs? Oh, yeah, the AFC sucks!!
Browns - And the stink rolls on...
Texans - Not sold on the Texans without Schaub. At least they will play at home against the Bengals.
Titans - Not really that bad of a year considering.
Jags - Mojo is the freaking man. What will the new owners do to help the guy out?
Colts - Better Luck next year!
Broncos - Tebow has played well and improved over the year. But the playoffs are not for "improving" players. It will be interesting to see what Elway does in the draft.
Chargers - Another year, another underachiving Bolts team.
Raiders - Average at its most average.
Chiefs - I think Romeo will do well here next year.
Giants - Thank you for not folding against the Cowboys.
Iggles - I thought you guys were supposed to take the NFC title this year? Ha!
Cowboys - Skip Bayless must be banging his head against a wall somewhere.
Skins - Hey, I've read this book before!
Packers - The scoring machine rolls on.
Lions - Lions/Saints could be one of the best games all year.
Bears - Bears went into hibernation when Cutler and Forte went down.
Vikings - Congrats Jared Allen. I was rooting for you to get another one.
Saints - How many records fell yesterday? Damn.
Falcons - The dirty birds seem to be peaking at the right time. Watch out G-men.
Panthers - Keep your head up, young man. The future in Carolina is bright.
Bucs - Aye, matey. Avast ye, and swab the deck!
49ers - With the NFC this stacked, some very good teams are not going to go very far. But the 49ers are capable of going all the way.
Cardinals - Waited a little too late to hit your stride.
Seahawks - Build around Marshawn Lynch, build around Marshawn Lynch, build around Marshawn Lynch...
Rams - You sucketh, royallyeth.

They cannot afford to draft Luck, keep Peyton, and sign enough talent to make themselves competitive. Yes, Peyton takes that team from 2-14 to a playoff team, but look at the players becoming FA's and look at how awful that team was this year.

Plus, you really think Peyton is going to restructure his contract so they can draft his replacement? I'm not a doctor, but every report/opinion I've read has him playing another 3-5 years. You think he's going to sit out his last years? Or do you think the best QB prospect since, well, Manning is going to sit on the bench to start his career? This isn't a Aaron Rodgers late first round scenario. He's the #1 pick and wants to start from day 1.

raheem morris fired from TB.

They were pathetic especially down the stretch. It's easier to fire a coach than a team. Bucs fans better hope the new guy gets players to work with. Hard to win on the cheap with young players and a young coach in the NFL.

Looks like that's the end of copycatting Mike Tomlin. McDaniels and Raheem were quickly dismissed.

not so sure about that. Indy is more than likely taking luck or someone is trading up to that pick. Cleveland needs a QB pretty badly.

If I'm Indy I trade down from #1 to some place high enough to still grab RGIII while using all of the other picks to replenish that horrific roster. You give Peyton one more 2-3 year window with the players you'd get from all of the Luck pick compensation and have your QB of the future for whenever Peyton's neck snaps, err retires.

They have years of a system geared toward Peyton Manning. They're not going to find a QB more capable of filling in that system than Luck. Don't play games with this. They don't know how much more time Peyton has left. We have to be real about what is happening. A 35 year old QB who has been a starting QB since he could walk just missed an entire season due to injury. Perhaps the highest graded QB in decades is available. You take him.

If I'm Colts management, I make this simple statement:

"We are drafting Andrew Luck with the #1 pick in the 2011 draft. We plan to play the best QB who emerges after training camp. If it is Peyton, it will be a continuation of his stellar career. If it is Luck, it will be the start of his stellar career. Several top QBs spent time as a backup to an elite QB. Aaron Rodgers backed up Brett Favre. Tom Brady backed up Drew Bledsoe. Phillip Rivers backed up Drew Brees. It works.

Peyton, if you don't want to compete with Andrew Luck, we'll trade you. Your abilities would be in great demand and you would be a necessary piece to some good teams out there that only lack a veteran QB to make them winners.

Andrew, if you don't want to compete with Peyton, you have one more year of eligibility."

Someone needs to tell Mark Dominik that the Rays model doesn't work for football.

At the least, I expect a strategical play by the Browns to make it sound like they are leaning towards Griffin. Expect them to then trade down in a monster deal.
