NFL Playoffs Thread

My guess is he stepped on a scale for the first time in a long time and the first number was 2.

Close i was actually just released from the hospital from a colon infection. I have been shocked by what the giants have done so congrats to you gmen fans. As for my hate for giants , its their fans, more particularly my younger brother. He is the most obnoxious human on the planet. Hes a season ticket holder and is such a loud mouth. Also living 2 hrs away from nyc and the large fan base is so annoying. Im sure if some of you gmen fans post on big blue imteractive you might know my brother. I was wrong about the giants and will admit so, i just cant wait for sunday..

As for my weight im a healthy 175. F the giants lets go niners.

This, although I believe Eagles fans are worse. Jets and Steeler fans too.

Outside of my Ravens, not much left to root for (and I recognize there are few Raven fans outside of Balmur). There is the game's biggest douchebag, Brady, or as Suggs calls him, God's Nephew, and the game's 2nd biggest douchebag, Belichick. Not fond of any NFCE team nor Coughlin in particular, but Eli has had his best year, and now that they are healthy, their DL is the best in the game. And Alex Smith deserves a SB ring less than Trent Dilfer. The Saints and Packers are my 2nd and 3rd favorite teams, so too bad they're out.

The Packers need to invest in some stickum next season.

I see a NE/NYG rematch. The combo of Eli and their D is too much for Smith, and I don't see Flacco and Cameron keeping up with Brady the way our O has played recently - extremely disgusted with our OL and Cam's play calling yesterday.

Haha alex smith deserves a ring less than dilfer? Try watching the niners play before making such dumb statements. He has had a very good year. He has had a dif ocord every season hes been in the nfl. A lot of guys whom had been through what he has would have folded and gone home. Also when you throw out the term 2nd and 3rd fave team, you sound like a stupid 10 year old. Grown men should only have one team.

So you were in a bad mood because you recently got pounded in the pooper?

Smith has had a god awful career vis-a-vis his draft status. But this was by far his best year, and essentially what that means is Harbaugh was able to get him to be an effective game manager and not turn the ball over - 1 of the many reasons Harbs deserves COY. Still wouldn't consider him even an average QB. But SF has 1 of the best Ds in the game to go along with Gore and a good OL. Same formula that got the NYJ to the AFC title game 2 years in a row.

Sorry to violate your rule of having more than 1 team I like in the nation's most popular sport. Must be fulfilling to be so ideologically pure.

So we have some friends in DC that are big Giants fans, so the last two weekends we've watched their games at a Giants bar in town. They really aren't any more obnoxious than fans of any other team - and it was a good atmosphere because they won both games. I did hear "Discount Double Check" and "RODGERS!" about two hundred times though.

The only thing that made me laugh was this one dude who would just yell these completely serious but nonsensical things during the game. Rodgers scrambles for 6 yards and sits down to not take a hit - "WHAT A PUSSY! TEBOW WOULD HAVE GONE RIGHT INTO THAT DUDE" Later Eli does the same thing - "SMART PLAY ELI YOU DON'T NEED TO BE TAKING HITS"

A game manager doesnt throw for 299 3tds and also rush for over 30 yards and a td. He is not a game manager anymore. This was the 5th forth quarter comeback he has led this year and at least the 2nd he has thrown the game winner. There were a number of times they trailed by more than a score and he led them back (philly, detroit) . To compare him to dilfer going into the season would have been acurate but game managers cant lead comebacks like he has led.

He had a good game Saturday, but he is certainly a game manager. Just look at his season statistics. He did a good job protecting the ball and scoring when he needed to, but he relied mostly on the defense and running game from Gore. He rarely had to lead them to the end zone and rarely put the team on his back to win games. He did sometimes, but that is the job of a game manager.

There are 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL. I generally think that the bottom 10 are bad, and shouldn't be starting quarterbacks. The middle 12 are players that won't necessarily lose you a game, but they don't scare opposing defenses and you'd obviously rather have the top 10. These guys are game managers.

You'd have a hard time convincing me that Alex Smith is one of the top 10 QBs in the league.

He's top 10 in passer rating, has his team in the NFC Championship game, & threw the least amount of interceptions in the history of the league this year.. I'll take him.

Label him as you'd like...he "managed" the hell out of the 'Aints Saturday night.

I am NOT saying he is a top 10 QB, but these silly labels of game manager are hilarious. A game manager is not the kind of guy who can lead you on 2 scoring drives with under 5 minutes of both 80 + yard drives in a playoff game. Comparing him to a guy like Trent Dilfer is laughable.

In todays fantasy football society, a guy who doesn't throw 40 + times every game has to be labeled a game manager. You see rookies manage games with the team really trying to protect him. If you watched every niner game you would see that, prior to the eagles 2nd half, they didn't let Alex do much. It was really basic and didn't open things up. When that 2nd half rolled around and they were down 3 scores, they opened it up and he lead the comeback. A game manager more often then not wont succeed in that situation. He has won a few games on his back with making big plays when the niners trailed in the 2nd half of games. If you look at a lot of their games they didn't have to throw a lot because of the complete beatings they were laying on teams.

I am sorry but a game manager doesn't do what he did last saturday.

There are way more than 10 QB's that would scare opposing defenses. Also if you broke down top QB's in the NFL it should look something close to this (obviously people could make arguments for some switches):

1) Brady
2) Rodgers
3) Brees
4) Peyton
5) Eli
6) Big Ben
7) Vick
8) Stafford
9) Cam Newton
10) Rivers
11) Romo
12) Schaub
13) Matt Ryan
14) Jay Cutler
15) Andy Dalton
16) Alex Smith
17) Joe Flacco

All of these guys can and have beaten teams. Before you get to Andy Dalton all of those guys could and should scare opposing defenses. They are in my opinion the most gifted QBs and have proven something to me in their careers. Point being there is way more than 10 good QB's in the NFL. As for the bottom 10 not being starting caliber, I would say:

Gabbert, Moore, McCoy, Cassel, Anyone AZ throws out, Sexy Rexy and T Jax are all back up material. Gabbert I just never believed in but maybe with the right coaching could turn it around. Guys like Fitzy, Palmer I believe are average. I think they are capable starters but not the kind of guys that will win anything major for you.

You look at guys like Freeman, Bradford,Sanchez and Tebow I believe the verdict is still out on those guys. Especially a guy like Sanchez could use the right coaching. As of last year at this time I would have ragged on Alex Smith badly. I hated him, wanted to see him gone. It didn't help that he had a different o-cord every year of his career. But it took a new coach who started to get the most out of him. All of these guys can improve with the right coaching and more time put in.

Alex is safely in that "next tier" of QBs in the 11-15 range, IMHO. At least this season, there were a few QBs with less efficient passer ratings who are in all likelihood superior quarterbacks, like Roethlisberger, Rivers, Cutler, and (maybe) Vick.

Alex Smith has certainly had a decent year, but it'll be interesting to see how he fares against the Giants' pass rush, which was not fully present the first time they played. The key since Osi came back is that in each game they are better in the 4th Quarter than the 1st. JPP, Tuck, Osi, Kiwanuka, Canty, Tollefson, and Bernard all rotate series on and off throughout the game, so by the time the 4th Quarter rolls around they have each played about half the snaps as the OL. They then can line up JPP, Tuck, Osi, and Kiwi all together against the tired OL. If the game is close or the Giants are ahead, it is tough to get time to throw against that pass rush. Boley getting healthy and getting Blackburn back helps that tremendously, as it allows them to play the 4-2-5 and let Kiwi play DL instead of LB. Unless the 49ers can rack up the rushing yards, Smith should have his hands full, he may have had a good year, but he doesn't have the quick release that Rodgers does.

Schaub is definitely better than Romo & Rivers. And if you're holding out judgement on Bradford, Freeman, Sanchez, Tebow, etc. you then have to hold out judgement on, AT THE LEAST, the rookies. You would also then need to hold out on Stafford because he's been in the league as long as Sanchez.

Just my .02

I stated that I have always hated Gabbert ala his college days. He may or may not be a good pro, I just dont see him being a good one. As for Stafford, I have seen enough of his talents to realize he is a damn good qb. Sanchez has never impressed.

Its obvious he doesn't have the quick release that Rodgers has, but this is a totally different game then what you saw this past weekend. Just because you dominated GB doesn't carry over to the next game for sure. Alex will have to play very well for SF to win but the difference between SF and most teams is that they get points or get set up for easy points by the other two facets of a football game.
