If Bz was to go

Guitar's post deserves it's own thread. Also, it will be interesting when all the bzzzinners get wind of this (that even Wellman is Bzzz out hopefully).

I said this earlier on this thread: If Bzzz doesn't win enough of the games he is supposed to, he is gone. Bank on it.

I dontr' believe at all that Wellman had [Redacted] on the rader for multiple years. It doesn't pass the sniff test.

It makes far more sense than any other explanation.

Claiming that Wellman was infatuated enough with [Redacted] to fire Gaudio with the specific intention of turning around and hiring [Redacted], and passing it off as "fact" is laughable, and wrong.

Right, especially since it seemed like we were going all out after Stevens. I think Wellman was backed into a corner because way too many people said no. He then had to hire his buddy.

The rumors that Dino had become a liability in terms of recruiting are the only ones that seem like legitimate grounds for his dismissal. However, you'd be surprised at how half-brained these things are thought out.

I'd like to know at least the gist of the basis for that story.

I'm BzzFence but leaning Bzzout. I have never heard any evidence that Wellman is considering fire [Redacted] this year. That assumes some real insider info.

One of the few times I've ever been directly privy to insider info was during the time of hiring [Redacted], and the story from Guitar does not fit. Either someone lied then or the above story is a lie. I have no way of knowing which is which really.

For instance, if any other coach at any time was offered or seriously considered for the Wake position, that story would be completely false.

Every AD keeps a short list of potential coaches for all sports just in case. I do believe very soon after Dino was hired Wellman's BB list had Buzz at or near the top. To me this was similar to the baseball hire...Wellman had identified his guy prior to pushing Greer out.

Who did you hear that we seriously considered?

Ron Wellman fucked the basketball program, our Athletic Department's flagship program, in the ass on a hunch. Inexcusable.

It actually makes a whole lot of sense.

1) Already knew and liked Bzz

2) Coaching at a military academy=discipline (what Wellman thought we were lacking).

3) Perception of "winning the right way." I.e., not afraid to run off bad seeds (he is not buddy buddy with his players).

Not only does it pass the sniff test, it sounds downright plausible. Explain how you don't think it passes the sniff test, because I dont see that point of view at all.

I don't really buy that Wellman was "infatuated with Bz".

He might have been the target from the get go, but I don't think his availability was one of the primary driving forces behind the decision to make a change.

I think for whatever reason or another, Wellman had a gut feeling about [Redacted] like I think he had with Grobe, but that gut feeling was way off this time around. Nothing about [Redacted]'s record, petigree, personality, or much of anything suggests that he should've been on Wellman's short list. Maybe Wellman thought since [Redacted] had been at Northwestern and had success at Air Force that he was somehow suited to the challenge that coaching at Wake Forest presents, you know the whole "doing more with less" type thing, but I just don't think that applies to us near as much in basketball as it does in football. The hiring of Jeff [Redacted] was such a "huh?????" thing, only Ron Wellman can tell you what exactly he was thinking.

what guitar said make sense and is consistent with what I had heard. We had zippy chance at Stevens after they made the elite 8. Bzz was it, we didnt seriously consider or offer anybody else the job.

Dude, you and I both know that his initial guy was Stevens. Stevens turned him down, then the backups turned him down, so Wellman had to hire his buddy.

I don't chalk up the Dino/Wellman relationship as the reason Dino got canned. I've heard that Dino was dabbling in shady recruiting and that makes the most sense as to how it all happened.

I tend to believe low level anonymous posters with info that detailed. Typically it is someone who has inside knowledge who doesn't post a lot, or it is a poster who posts a lot and is using an alias. Maybe I believe more because there are a couple of posters like that who have posted inside knowledge I also knew and got called out, but were right (typically more on the App State side of things, but same premise). Why would someone make up that entire story?

That only works if he accepts the Air Force results at face value and doesn't consider that the program had already achieved unheard of success for an academy, resulting in two different coaches getting better jobs. This very well could have happened.

And, of course, I'm with you in doubting the premise that Wake Forest basketball has to do more with less, at least in the sense of Northwestern or Air Force.

Well then... if I see Ron on campus I am going to yell at him until I pass out.

Why would someone post about Chick-Fil-A being open on Sunday?

I believe this story though.

This is the way I tend to lean.

I've also heard lots of rumors about Bzzz' seat being surface of the sun hot FWIW.
