If Bz was to go

It makes far more sense than any other explanation.

IDK what insider info guitar has, but Buzz's being Wellman's "safety coach" still makes sense to me. As in, we put all of our eggs in the, let's say, Brad Stevens basket, whiffed, panicked, and picked a guy who we knew would take the job and was presumably adequate. To me, it makes more sense than Wellman's dropping Dino just to get Buzz, but then, I'm not in the know.

He still should have hired a guy with a better track record than Jeff [Redacted]. That hire remains inexcusable and for Wellman to basically make the hire all on his own is baffling.

Maybe Wellman thought that at Wake, Bzz would really succeed with his methods.

Then he needs better foresight.

If multiple posters thought, "shit, this won't end well," as [Redacted] was rumored to be the new coach, then the Athletic Director surely should have had similar reservations. But he didn't, and for reasons that only he knows.

At least he has stopped his nonsensical PR campaign stating how he "couldn't be happier" with the state of the program. He seems to have finally wised up to how much that bullshit stunk.

Well obviously, but sometimes you hire Ron Zooks and other times you hire Urban Meyers. Each situation is different. You either have to hope:

1. There is a miracle turnaround
or
2. Wellman feels enough pressure that he has to get a big time hire and we don't end up with another bzzz.

I've seen you post about "why did they extend Dino's contract" and I wanted to nip it in the bud so you quit saying it. This is why programs do that:

1.To create the illusion of stability for players.
2.So they can show that stability to recruits.
3. (in some cases) So they can keep that coach from going somewhere else.

It isn't because they liked Dino, it just means that they needed to show stability for some recruits so he could say "I'll be here for all of your four years" while he was on the trail.

Dude, you and I both know that his initial guy was Stevens. Stevens turned him down, then the backups turned him down, so Wellman had to hire his buddy.

I don't chalk up the Dino/Wellman relationship as the reason Dino got canned. I've heard that Dino was dabbling in shady recruiting and that makes the most sense as to how it all happened.

Hello, you are dreaming with the stevens stuff bro. by the time Stevens made the elite 8 we had no chance. They made it within a inch of a natty title wake was a step down at that point.

All the recruits for the 2010 class had already committed before Dino was extended and Dino was fired before any 2011 recruits had accepted any scholarship offers.

The "extension for the benefit of recruiting" line just doesn't pass the bullshit test in this case. Wake Forest received no positive recruiting benefits from Dino being extended in October of 2009 and then fired in April of 2010.

Maybe so, but what about Alford, Tubby, etc?

Here's a timeline of April 2010. Keep in mind Wellman was front and center in Indy right before this.

April 5th: Butler loses final game
April 7th: Dino gets canned
April 9th: Stevens gets a HUGE contract extension. One you only get when other teams are pursuing your coach.
April 13th: Bzzz is hired.

We went after Stevens. I don't know if we had any shot, but we went after him.

Wellman plainly had not made a decision on Dino before the 2009-2010 season.

Oddly, Dino essentially raised expectations by doing better than anyone expected through the first half of the season or so. Then things fell apart at the end and especially in the ACCT.

I contend that the ACCT game versus Miami is what cost Dino his job.

Our search for a new coach began behind the scenes before the NCAA Tournament and Butler's incredible run. Stevens and Alford were the top 2 options.

As if 18 year olds keep their commitments! They could change their mind and this deterred them from doing that.

I can say with a very high degree of confidence that this is true. After that game Dino was a dead man walking, and we started taking steps to look for a replacement immediately.

There is absolutely no way you can definitively say what I just bolded. Get serious.

Makes a lot more sense than your conspiracy theories. 18 year olds are fickle, have you ever watched a national signing day?

The dude almost won the title with a mid-major, of course he is getting a huge extension, and I'm sorry but he's not leaving lifetime job security to come build at the 4th or 5th best program in the ACC. He coulda had any job in the country minus 5 or so. Anyone that thinks we had a realistic shot at Stevens is crazy.

I didn't say we had a shot but to suggest that we didn't test the waters is ridiculous.

How many kids verbally commit and then change their minds when they sign the LOI?

And what conspiracy theory have I put forward exactly?
