If Bz was to go

You have no idea what the people around Stevens said to Wellman or his people.

Thus to make such a statement starts from a predetermined position.

:tard:

The unintentional comedy of that post is off the fucking charts.

All I know is this, when we fired Dino, I thought we're getting Brad Stevens- woo-hoo!!!! Then when Jeff [Redacted] was announced, I was- who the f*** is he???????

I personally thought we were going to try to outbid Clemson for Brownell, but everything I've heard is that we really didn't push that hard for him.

Buzz was floated as the replacement 2 weeks prior to it going down. He was the guy Wellman wanted. There were a few other on the list that were dismissed by Wellman as unlikely to come.

I don't think anyone denies that he fucked up. I think some people here are claiming that [Redacted] was choice #1 and the reason we fired Gaudio was to go get him, and that's simply not correct. We fired him thinking we could land a better coach and [Redacted] was the fall back after we whiffed because we set our sights on coaches who either weren't interested (Alford) or were unavailable due to an incredible postseason run.
Your position seems just as speculative based on what we do know.

How is this possible in that Dino was fired April 6 and [Redacted] was hired April 13.

Are you seriously saying [Redacted] was being floated before Dino was fired?

If what you are saying is true, why didn't he sign April 8-10?

I tend to believe low level anonymous posters with info that detailed. Typically it is someone who has inside knowledge who doesn't post a lot, or it is a poster who posts a lot and is using an alias. Maybe I believe more because there are a couple of posters like that who have posted inside knowledge I also knew and got called out, but were right (typically more on the App State side of things, but same premise). Why would someone make up that entire story?

GuitarDeac's post is subject to one of only two possible explanations:

1. His post intentionally came from Ron himself, through an authorized leaker. To claim you know Ron Wellman's state of mind means either you are Ron Wellman or you are speaking for Ron Wellman.

2. His post is total BS.

There are no other options. No low-level "insider" can claim to know Ron's state of mind, without Ron telling him. Since I doubt seriously that Ron Wellman posts his state of mind on this board, the likeliest answer is #2.

There wouldn't be an "authorized leaker" for such a post at this point in time. There is no upside for such info getting out.

Jeff was the name prior to the firing. I'll give more details once Jeff is gone or once Wellman is gone.

LK, I just mean there are conflicting reports about how many candidates we went through before Bzzz, if there were even any at all.

There is a third option- a person with high level access at Wake who isn't an authorized leaker.

Nobody can possibly know what Wellman's thoughts were are currently are because the man has completely lost the plot.

This is fair. I guess I should say someone might know what he says behind closed doors vs. to the public.

Karma, you shared with me the information you know. I don't think it's too far off from guitardeac. You're assuming that those names you heard that Wellman sent people to research were ahead of [Redacted]. Maybe they weren't. Perhaps Wellman was just doing due diligence and after he did, he came to the conclusion that his guy [Redacted] was a better choice than Alford, Tubby, and some others.

One thing I'd hope BzInners can agree on is that Wellman completely miscalculated fan reaction to this hire. I have no idea what logic he used to come to a conclusion that a career loser like Bz would be appealing to the fanbase. If he based it on the Air Force game that wasn't even televised to much of the fanbase in which a bad Skip Prosser team couldn't just throw the ball out and run in high altitude against a team that had been built up well before Bz got there, he's a fool. That team lost the next three games to Georgia, DePaul, and VT. Who thinks that the first guy to beat them in a four game losing streak is some kind of coaching genius? Why not pursue Dennis Felton and Jerry Wainright? We lost to USF that season too? Robert McCullum is available.

If Wellman became infatuated with Bz because he beat a team that went 10-15 the rest of the way, that's appalling and it's insulting that he would think we would be infatuated with him too.

I'm not very skeptical of guitardeac's comments.

I don't want to beat my chest about it, especially since it hasn't happened yet, but I've been saying (and getting crushed for it) since last year that this 'Bz has at least 3 (or in some cases 4) years regardless' stuff is nonsense.

Even if you consider the 'Bz-out' mentality to be a consistent negitive reception of Bz (which its not... that mentality has certainly grown and gained considerably more followers since Spring '10), you've got to know that Wellman's confidence in Bz's ability to change that perception over time is concave down as the losses pile up, the seats in the joel empty, and the checkbooks of donors close.

I think Wellman still has time to save his own hide, while we still care enough about the program to despise Bz, by making a decision based upon Bz's performance after this season (like he supposedly did with Dino) & going out and finding a coach that will excite the fan-base and the new class of recruits. If he doesn't; I really consider the 3rd year a make-or-break year for both of them. At some point, Wellman will have to make the decision as to whether or not that's a smart bet; and in my own opinion, letting it ride at the end of this season would be even more perplexing than the original hire.

And to the people who think a firing after 2 years would steer off other candidates; I think that's absurd.

With any 'good job' comes standards of performance.

I doubt there's any coach in America (that we'd want, anyway) who wouldn't objectively look at the results of the past two years and understand that they do not align with what should be accepted at Wake Forest University.
