2013 FB RECRUITING MEGATHREAD: Stevenson! 1RB,1DL,1K,2WR,5LB,1QB,5OL,3DB,2TE

Hazime was coming on as a Sophomore then hurt his knee...as with most recoveries his JR season was one of readjustment. It typically takes 18 months for the athlete to physically and psychologically recover. Looking for real contribution from this guy - 6'4-278 Sr/ experience...let's hope he picks up where he left off pre-injury.

As for the 4 I mentioned there is no "holding on" -- Olson and Jackson will wind up being as good as Curry-Arnoux...the bonus is that the present team has another budding star in Zachary Allen and 2 more potential studs in Chubb and Hunt. For 2012 you also have the luxury of Sr.'s Betros, Haynes and Ehrmann...that's a lot of "real" heated competition for spots. Jim may complain about "depth" but he has a ton more than previous squads.

Whitlock is rated by Steele as the #8 DT in the land...he will continue to defy the odds as he moves further up that list. He IS the Heart and Soul of this team and he is the perfect representative of the smallest school in major college football.

Merril is everything Phonz was...hopefully Phonz is in his ear about his own struggles as a sophomore. Merril simply needs to play within the scheme and he will continue to impress.

This is great; but what about our running game especially running backs. Josh seems to have tons of potential; but that is all we have seen thus far: potential. Is he ready to be the man?

"Potential" is all you have seen if you have not been watching. He is a JR. at Wake -- Kenny Moore did NOTHING before his JR year because of nagging hamstrings - Josh has set the Lane Stadium record for a visiting back and was the ONLY Runningback to have more than 100 yards against Florida State in 2011.

You are right, he must figure out the cure to his hams but he has been the most dominant player in all inter-team scrimmages and we can certainly hold hope that he will figure out the hamstring deal as Campanaro and Moore have done before.

Of course we all remember the VT game...that was awesome...that was the "potential" that we envisioned translating into Barclay type stats. Is there any concern that JH is a bit reluctant to absorb contact? Is that part of what Coach means by saying that he needs to run between the tackles more?

He needs to but it's not his game. He needs perfect blocking to use his speed with minimal contact.

Harris just needs to man the fuck up.

If he had Pendergrass' toughness and North-South mentality, he would be a first three rounds pick in the NFL draft. It is all on him right now.

Can't he be both: a guy who can run inside effectively and also breaks to the outside for long gains? He sure seems to have the build to do both.

stevewhite nailed it above.

I'd disagree with that.

Brandon was a more polished football player...he was a textbook player who was never "decieved" by his abilities...he knew his limits and played the game within those bounds.

Josh will continue to get better at running between tackles and seeing the crease. It is a developmental phase that all backs with mercurial gifts go through -- anybody who watched Chris Johnson early at ECU watched a much different runner emerge as a JR and SR...no longer did he go down on contact or get tackled by his shoestrings...no wonder NFL defenses still focus on his ankles (see Balt. Ravens )

Hope Josh develops his skills to the max; but he is running out of time. Also concerned regarding depth...which given his injury prone past is a real issue. Will Reynolds become a serious threat? Who do we have in the wings?

No he's not "running out of time"...

Whose team do you guys actually follow!?

2 Star players normally don't do diddly at WF before their JR season...they have fits and starts but nothing constant.

That's the cause for so much optimism in 2012... RS JR's abound and are ready to emerge. This is classic Jim Grobe and precisely why he is Not yanking your chain when he responds to recruiting class questions with (ask me in 3 years)

The key for these guys is staying in school and working the S@C program -/ there are 2 paths...you can tough it out like Jyles Tucker (did not transfer to Hampton before JR. Season) or you can follow Kevin Smith and screw up right at the moment you are ready to perform.

Here we have a player named Kris Redding. We have guys across the board who are primed to make the next step....from Mack to Lowe to Olson to Thompson etcetera, etc.,

The fan that really studies Wake Forest KNOWS that WF is one of real candidates for the 2012 ACC Title.

Given the amount of time he has spent on the sidelines over the past two seasons, Josh is running out of time. It seems fairly obvious that JH is not going to be a 20-25 carry per game guy, so who shares the load and does so productively? Lack of depth at RB is a serious concern, is it not?

I hear what you are saying...I'm just not as apoplectic about it.

Josh can certainly carry the ball 20 -25 times if needed.

Sure sounds from his tweets that Josh's goal is to go pro after this year. I'd call that running out of time.

And I agree with your last sentence three posts up, BTW.

It's strange but we may in fact look back and be glad Harris did not blow up as a Soph. 1 outstanding season will not be enough for Harris. He needs the seasoning. He needs to learn how to play RB.

Orville Reynolds is an interesting compliment to Harris -- has the tools of a back like those we've seen coming out of Oregon/ Oregon State the last few years.

Both of the above backs have the straight-line speed...both need work on body control - the lean and the squaring shoulders to the LOS.

X-Factor in all this is a player named Domonique Gibson. No doubt this guys first destination should be runningback. I understand he wants to be a Safety but he needs to come in and be ready to tote the ball.

^^^ and that observation is reserved for those who previously informed this staff that "Hell Yes, Nikita Whitlock is a college Defensive Tackle!!"

Harris blowing up last year would have assuredly put us in the ACCCG and maybe the Orange Bowl.

Yep. And what makes lectro's post even more ridiculous is that we just saw what one big season did for Givens. If Harris blows up, he's gone. RB depth going forward is an issue regardless. I didn't see much from Reynolds last year.

I think we have a good shot at an ACC title the next two years more so next year than this year. We just need a few things to happen and anything is possible.

1. Unknown O-line needs to be good.
2. Develop a running game/ Josh and Orville need to stay healthy and a 3rd rb needs to emerge.
3. 1 or 2 WR need to step forward and take Givens spot. Would also be nice to develop and use a good TE.
4. DL needs to stay healthy and be formidable.
5. Depth at lb needs to continue to improve

The secondary with no injuries should be nasty the next few years.

I saw plenty from Reynolds last year. The kid is a ball player that will show up when called upon.

ACC refs cost WFU a shot at the title game. (plenty of blame goes to WFU, but the parties that be did everything to make sure Klempsum and not WFU was playing in the title game)
