At what point do we as fans need to make a statement to MSD about the direction our revenue sports programs are going in? Are you there already?

If so, how would you send that message?

I don't think I"ll ever boycott them fully, since deacon club donations and the like go a long way to funding scholarships for all our athletes.

I could definitely seeing myself give gifts with instructions like "give only to Men's/Women's Soccer, thanks."

I think that's important. We would need to show support for the student athletes while voicing our opinion to the administration.

Would that message be sent more effectively by us not buying any more WFU gear? Or something else?

Personally, I'd like to see fans do something like wear a specific color (obviously not gold or black) to sporting events to show their disagreement with our coaching staffs. To see a sea of orange (for example) on television at a basketball game - knowing what that message meant - would be a great slap in the face to Wellman et al.

Until the key people who piss away tens of thousands of dollars per year to this program finally decide to wake up, the rest of us can show up naked as a protest and nothing will change with this athletic program. Wellman is the modern P.T. Barnum. Fool only some of the people ALL of the time and he remains golden.

Just my 2 cents. I do appreciate your concern but I don't see anything changing anytime soon. Wellman has the key people fooled and that's all that counts.

Two responses:
1. A lot of people already wear orange, blue, etc to the games
2. A la #1, we cannot get people to wear our colors so getting them to wear a random color would (hopefully) be harder to pull off

As said above by someone, I'll never boycott the sports but I will continue to voice my opinion respectfully to the AD and WFU admin plus key boosters that I know. It definitely has minimal effect on anything but it still makes me feel better. The specified donations are a good idea but the Deacon Club will simply divert some non-earmarked money from the soccer team to keep their overall budget the same. So specified donations will make you feel good but in the end the football/basketball teams will indirectly get some money from your donation.

We should get everyone to wear baby blue to the basketball games. Oh wait that already happens.

I will never do that, but agree the time for change is now. I do think Grobe gets some more time. Buzz should be fired now.

I think a lot of people have already done this. Exhibit A - the Joel during a men's bball game.

The Athletic Department very clearly hiked ticket prices for football this year in an attempt to make up for the lost revenue from unsold basketball tickets. The problem is that the football program is taking on water as well. If people stop buying football tickets like they've stopped buying basketball tickets, then I would guess we'll start seeing some changes.

Hiring [Redacted].

If so, how would you send that message?

I've sent a letter to Mr. Hatch stating that I would and I have ceased any ticket or WFU branded merchandise purchases. All he has to do to get me and many others back is fire Wellman & [Redacted] to get WFU back on track.

Occupy the Quad. It won't accomplish anything but you get to smoke dope and get lots of pussy.

I just don't think letters are going to solve the problem. I'd like to see the boards rally behind one message/one way to show our distaste for what is happening at MSD.

I won't attend a WFU hoops game until Bzzz is gone. I don't know if that is "boycotting" or not. I used to go to about 4-5 games/year.

Not sure what word you'd use but either way, it ain't supporting. I'm sure the players, local vendors/businesses, and anyone else who also can't do jackshit about the situation appreciate your support, though.

Well this is a fairly stupid argument.

Well this is a fairly stupid argument.

And fuck you very much!

Not nearly as fucking stupid as thinking boycotting a fucking college's athletic events will lead to some kind of turn-around. But by all means, don't provide any refutation. Just make a drive-by one liner and we can start calling you Keeper 2.
