'17 Specials & '18 Midterms Thread

Expect turnout levels not seen since the 60s, especially among Democrats: https://www.npr.org/2018/10/18/658255884/voter-turnout-could-hit-50-year-record-for-midterm-elections

This bolsters the argument/speculation a few posts back that some of the models may be under-projecting the Democrat's chances in certain races if their turnout assumptions are too low.

I'm not saying you're wrong. More like we'll see, as the Zen master said. If last year's state house elections here in VA are an indication, then you might be right. But looking at the districts where Dems made the most state gains, VA 2, 7 and 10, only 10 looks to go Dem right now. All the polling so far has Taylor and Brat holding on.

Good lesson for our DSA friends in that article (which is solid and scary):

"But the potential impact of the Mueller report does suggest yet another eerie similarity to the interwar period—how the toxic divisions in domestic politics led to the complete inversion of previous political orientations. Both Mussolini and Hitler came to power in no small part because the fascist-conservative alliances on the right faced division and disarray on the left. The Catholic parties (Popolari in Italy, Zentrum in Germany), liberal moderates, Social Democrats, and Communists did not cooperate effectively in defense of democracy. In Germany this reached the absurd extreme of the Communists underestimating the Nazis as a transitory challenge while focusing on the Social Democrats—dubbed “red fascists”—as the true long-term threat to Communist triumph."

You don't know what the hell you're going on about. "Did not cooperate" are you out of your mind? The Social Democrats literally massacred the socialists. The Marxist socialist revolution was at a major tipping point all over Europe after WWI, but was prevented in Germany by the bourgeoise SPD contracting the Friekorps (militias of displaced, unemployed, traumatized WW1 vets) to crush the Spartacist uprisings. Those fucks literally paid the military to kill the socialists.

ITC characterizes DSA strategy as "rigid rejection of mainline left politics" and Shoo wags his finger at us. Meanwhile, Avalon points out that Sean McElwee and BobbyBigWheel, DSAers, are raising money for down ballot candidates.

Talk to the author, I guess? The guy who is the Frank Porter Graham Professor of History Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Any way -- not my point. Forest for trees, once again with you.

The Nazis were an ethno-nationalist fascist group that banned worker strikes. They were nominally socialist to gain a populist foothold with workers but once they did so, ignored the concerns of the workers in lieu of increased productivity at any costs.

The whole "socialism is bad because (Venezuela, Cuba, Nazis)" shtick is not only intellectually lazy it's dishonest. Roughly on par with "you know Lincoln was a Republican and Democrats were in favor of slavery" as far as political arguments go.

Review Shooshmoo's violent Final Solution diatribes. You alt-left loons are ready to commence the Great Leap Forward for your Dear Leaders Chuck and Nancy.

What was your point? Because all you did was say "good lesson" and post someone else's paragraph.

You just told us that Nazis were socialists and the article that Shoo posted states they took advantage of the fascist-conservative alliances and the fractured left.

So what’s your new position on the Nazis? Socialists still?

Since the first fundraiser was so successful, the guys added another that helps eight down ballot candidates in PA, MI, OH, and AZ. They're getting close to $30K raised in just over an hour.

Yes, my diatribes about instituting real death panels -- dead serious on that one you fucking tool.

That's the only recent poll that has had Bredesen up, fwiw. But the gender gap in any race is hardly surprising these days.

i am in the middle of this race and it is crazy. Blackburn is running a lie and bring the smear tactic out in full force. I see her commercials twice as often. Bredesen is ok, i feel i have to vote for him because Blackburn is a witch.

It's too obvious. I would feel too sad for you if I had to explain it further. But something within me knew neither of you would get it, so just forget it.

God forbid you share any of your own thoughts

This describes about 80% of races. All the GOP ads in FL are either misleading hopeful information about the Republican or the Democrat is a shadowy figure and Nancy Pelosi's best friend.
