Loony Tunes are so underrated. Most of the other stuff I watched as a kid in the 70s in retrospect was crap, but Loony Tunes still stands up well. I wouldn't know anything about opera if it weren't for those cartoons.

Agreed. Much of my ear for classical music came from those cartoons.

i would be curious to think what kids think of them, or better yet, what a 10-13 yr old who has never seen them would think

Is it the rabbit in blackface? The rapist skunk? The sadomasochistic coyote?

Making fun of minorities, rape, and depression related to hunger and failure to reach one's goals never go out of style.

"His most ambitious proposal is the creation of a city scholarship fund to provide free tuition at an area community college for public high school graduates. He also plans to establish new early childhood learning centers for 3- and 4-year-olds, and to transform neglected neighborhood recreation centers into hubs for employment training."

Sad that this is considered "ambitious" and "progressive." Seems like simple reforms everybody should get behind.

On a related point, ABC's new show "The Mayor" was OK. It has some promise.

I didn't particularly dislike Mayor Bell. I think Birmingham has come a LONG way in the 7 years I've lived here (since start of his term) but I guess a lot of people either don't attribute that to Bell, or think he could have done more.

Is Grimm a Terminator? He's got that "I'm reading target analysis overlays" look in his eyes.

Is Jefferson County still in its Chapter 9?

I'm not sure what classifies as being out of Chapter 9. All I can do is link its Wiki page that says:

"As of May 2012, Jefferson County had slashed expenses and reduced employment of county government workers by more than 700.[13] The county emerged from bankruptcy in December 2013, following the approval of a bankruptcy plan by the United States bankruptcy court for the Northern District of Alabama, writing off more than $1.4 billion of the debt."

And this from 2014:

I was just wondering because I find municipal bankruptcies interesting. I know they filed because of a terrible sewage contract.

For Republican Leaders in Congress, the Headaches Keep Mounting

WASHINGTON — Republican leaders in Congress are under attack from all sides of their own party, battered by voters from the right and left, spurned by frustrated donors and even threatened by the Trump White House for ineffective leadership and insufficient loyalty.

They brought it on themselves and then painted themselves into a corner. Or gerrymandered themselves.
