There are a shit load of people in this country who have much more pressing day to day concerns than bigotry and climate change. You all have to come to grips with that. You can't shame those people into voting, and you either give a fuck about helping them or not. Those people's needs are very often at odds with the wishes of corporate and wealthy constituents. There is no magical middle path that helps them both.

That's very true. But the Trumplican party will 100% fuck these folks over while lying and mocking them to their face.

The democratic party will 100% fuck these folks over while lying and talking out of the other side of their mouth about criminal justice reform, while funding more police training and building better jails and privatizing schools and defending ICE.

Jesus Christ. Donald Trump is not the first Republican president. I guarantee you that the things you hate about Trump the most barely fucking register to the last panhandler you saw.

Families of shooting massacre victims are setting up gofundmes to beg for help paying their hospital bills. Is that Trumps fault? Obamas fault? There is terrible shit happening that is absolutely the fault of our infrastructure. Shit that should be unthinkable in a country with our wealth.

There’s some weird belief that if both parties continue to Fuck Up, granted one gets lumped in with the other when it’s not really close, then their will be some magic progressive revolution. The Brasky burn it to the ground mentality, but you know who comes out the other end of that fine while many end up worse off, dead, etc... the wealthy. Human society will always have stratification, be it wealth, if not that then intelligence, it’s human nature that one group will be better than another group and that group better than another and so on. There will always be winners and losers, and if that ever changes I think what we consider Human has changed.

You think some people just deserve to be on the street or die from a treatable disease because they have no path to employment?

Nope but right now you have four options. Vote for a party that really isn’t gonna do shit for those people and most likely actively do more harm to them. Vote for a party that while not helping those people to the full extent they deserve and need will at least explore some avenues in their interest while you continue to try to shape things from the inside and accelerate a path towards your ultimate goal. Vote for a throwaway as some protest or crazy ideal because you want the ultimate goal now, don’t want to wait, it’s the easy option, etc which in turn circles back to voting option number one and you actively harm those that you want to help. Finally, don’t vote which is the easiest and lazy way out with the same consequences of action 1 or 3.

The disagreement is that I don't agree that giving power to democrats gets you on the path to the ultimate goal. It may be an ideal, but it is no more or less crazy than participating in the political decision gymnastics you have to go through to convince yourself to vote for Democrats.

At the risk of stating the obvious, every state but Texas is still in primary mode, still time to influence the direction of the party (likely more so for state and local races.)

BTW, I was looking up the opponents for two progressive Pittsburgh-area state house candidates to confirm they were running against incumbents. I didn't realize they were running against members of the same family:

The socialists vs. the Costas: Upstart hard-left candidates challenge iconic old-school Pittsburgh political family

So what’s your solution? Keep electing Republicans?

Electing Dems isn't always the right answer but in the Trump world it is. Watching what I consider sane men and women follow this clown devoutly is disgusting. They don't crow as much as they used too because I think they too are embarrassed by his behavior, but there is no way they'll vote for a Dem.

So Tarkanian threw in the towel?

US Senate candidate proposes arming homeless people with shotguns

The homeless people would not be forced to carry pump-action shotguns, Ellison said.

“The first thing that we’re gonna do is ask them if they think this is something that would benefit them. We’re certainly not trying to force anything on anybody.”

Ammunition would be provided with the shotguns, probably in five- or six-shell magazines, Ellison said.

More shells would be provided if the owners legitimately used their guns to defend themselves, however, if people spent their ammunition “shooting cans in somebody’s private property” then they would not be given more shells.

Ellison said he did not think the plan was dangerous.

“Well, are you worried about the police being armed with military weapons?” he asked.

Running as a Libertarian. So try to out-crazy that, Republicans.

That is crazy. And it’s a lot of government intervention for a libertarian. Somehow he’s going to monitor how people use their government shotguns.

However this:

Ellison said he did not think the plan was dangerous.

“Well, are you worried about the police being armed with military weapons?” he asked.

“I am. The world we live in is a scary world, where the police who used to dress in short-sleeved shirts and carry a revolver now have long rifles with scopes and bulletproof vests and armoured vehicles.

“And quite frankly that scares me much more than a homeless person trying to defend themselves with a shotgun.”
——

Not crazy.

Part of me thinks he came up with that crazy idea to support his points on gun regulations and police militarization. When you look at it like that, he’s a pretty reasonable libertarian.

Dan Lipinski's campaign is sending out texts saying his opponent wants to jail nuns and Susan B. Anthony List (a group that has Mike Pence and his wife as its Twitter header) is using typical right wing smears against her if you're wondering how the primary in Illinois is going.

One of the most frustrating aspects of Donald Trumps presidency is that his awfulness provides cover for all of these vile incumbent Democrats to be as shitty as possible. Long after Trump is gone, these pieces of shit are still going to be in office all over the country.
