2018 NFL Season ends: Patriots win Superbowl!

Give each team an equal number of possessions until someone wins (in the playoffs). Basically, use the college system but get rid of the 25 yard line rule and just use regular kickoffs.

It is especially absurd that both teams don’t get the ball in today’s nfl, when teams score TDs at a higher percentage than ever before.

I don't see the downside of adopting the college OT system in the pros, it's fair and highly entertaining.

Agreed - although I'd move the ball back to the 40.

NFL kickers are too damn good to start at the 25. 40 makes sense.

Tony Romo was money last night. He predicted what was about to happen 3, 4 or 5 times. I like him a lot better than "Hall of Famer" Troy Aiken who just seems to blather on an on, often over the next play

Romo's observations were nice, but I was distracted by the Brady-slathering he and Nantz were spewing.

I'm kind of torn on the overtime deal. I mean the teams had 60 minutes to win outright so I don't get wrapped up in the fairness or "representativeness of the actual game" of OT. It's just there to break the tie because one team has to advance. Sudden death OT accomplishes the "excitement" requirement and also ensures that the game will be as short as possible to limit injuries. People will bitch about whatever OT system is used.

College overtime starting on 40 seems like a good idea whoever threw that out there.

I don’t know why people want to make it complicated. Just keep playing.

I like it, but start at the 50. Also good with whoever is leading at the end of the 1st OT wins and sudden death the way it is now for second OT. Almost anything better than what it is now.

It really surprises me the degree to which everyone's on the Patriots. The Rams have several all Pro-caliber players on both sides of the ball, arguably the best DC of all time, a genius offensive play caller. Is it purely driven by the fact that people don't think they should be there?

No. It’s because the Pats basically live there.

I’m getting hyped about a Clemson-Bama type beating though.

I am just so sick of seeing NE there. And what makes it worse is my father in law (whom is a great man), jumped on the pats bandwagon like 8 years ago and acts like the biggest fan out there. When you switch your team allegiance in your 50s, and to a team in the middle of a dynasty, you’re a fraud. Just drives me nuts. And last night sucked even worse because my older brother , who has been a diehard chiefs fan for about 30 years now, was there with my 9 year old nephew. Only to watch brady and the pats go to another SB.

At least one sportsbook in NJ is giving refunds to some bettors because of the bad missed calls (PI and helmet to helmet hit, same play) by the refs in the Saints-Rams game.

I think it's mainly because of this (not that I agree with the sentiment -- after Foles last year, I ain't taking any QB lightly.)

One thing that has been mostly overlooked with the missed pass interference call is the concurrent missed helmet to helmet hit. If the PI was a judgement call that wasn't called, was the helmet to helmet hit also a "judgement call" by the official? I thought with the supposed emphasis on player safety that such hits were to be flagged and then reviewed ( and perhaps negated) rather than ignored.

The failure to see anything on such a play with two obvious, egregious fouls committed could lead to people questioning the integrity of the game official.

Are the Pats the Fox News of sports?

Because people realize there's a good chance the Patriots will do to the Rams what they just did to the Chiefs:
1. Take an offense that lit it up at times throughout the season and shut them down when it counts. Frustrate the young QB. If the Saints held the Rams to 23 in regulation, I expect a Belichick D with 2 weeks to prepare will do at least as well.
2. Take an overall bottom-half defense and carve them up. vs KC it was more Brady but still success in the run, vs LA it'll probably lean a little more on the run game.

I'm no Patriots fan by any stretch but wouldn't pick against them

Rams run D has been excellent the last two weeks, seems they've figured something out there. If they can slow the Cowboys and Saints rush Os I see no reason why they can't do the same to the Pats.

And then Donald and the other interior pass rushers can get loose

Nothing personal, but this is my pet-peeve. What happens when you give KC the ball, then they score a TD? Can NE now win it on the next possession, without giving KC a second chance? If you are going to give KC one more shot on offense, you have to go all the way and adopt some version of the college rule where both teams get the ball an equal number of times until the tie is broken.

My other 2 cents on the college OT, they should either eliminate teams from going for it on 4th down, or take FG kicking out of the OT. As it is now, there is a 55 / 45 advantage to the teams that win the coin toss and goes on D. If the other team scores, they now have 4 downs per first down, to get a first down or score, where the first team on O generally only has 3 downs, then kicks the FG on 3rd down.

No offense taken. You have an opinion and some insight. What is your solution?

I couldn’t sympathize with you more. However, I will admit to slowly shifting my position. I will always hate Pats fans, they are the worst. Having said that, I can not listen to talk radio here (and I don’t) and not go on Facebook to see miserable takes (again, I don’t) so I can insulate myself from miserable takes. Buuuut I am really respecting the pats as a team. They have the greatest coach of all time and the greatest qb of all time. They don’t typically have elite weapons but they still get things done. Truly impressive. Don’t get me wrong listening to eei after last years super bowl was glorious but I’m ok with them winning while they can

It is nauseating. I actually grew up a Red Sox fan and practically don’t care about them because of how obnoxious the fan base is.

Chiefs fire DC Bob Sutton. Rumor is that KC may hire Rex Ryan as his replacement.
