2018 NFL Season ends: Patriots win Superbowl!

Josh Freeman’s backup led a team to victory in 2018. Crazy stuff.

I do not understand why the clock stops late in the game after a defensive penalty, as it just did in the NE-Pitt game

Pats benefited from a 5-yard penalty by the clock stopping

Defensive or offensive? It is pretty obvious why it stops on a defensive penalty, they are punishing the defense for committing a foul.

except the defense is trailing and wants the ball back, so the impact of stopping the clock helps the defense even though they committed the penalty

Most defensive penalties result in a first down. So whatever time gains they may get will be short lived.

offense earned a first down on the play (and stayed inbounds); penalty was 5 yards tacked on but saved 40 seconds

Hmmm the clock didn't start again when the ball was set and the play clock started ticking down?

The fake punt catch was not a catch...It should be overturned...

I was thinking the same.

So when does Aaron Rogers start getting the criticism with McCarthy gone and them still sucking? Because he really needs that second SB to be considered ELIte.

they were making GOAT commercials ahead of his game against the Pats this year. ain't no one gonna ever do that for Eli.

Out of the six highest paid QBs on a per annum basis, only one has a shot at the playoffs: Kirk Cousins and the Vikings are in the last WC spot as of today.

Among the top 10, only Brees and Cousins are in playoff spots right now.

I wonder how smart teams will look to get QBs on the cheap a la RBs of late.

So.... The Chargers might be the best team in the AFC and end up being on the road for the whole playoffs.

What list are you working from? Seems like there are rookie contract QB, established big contract QBs, and a few guys in between.

You are wholly overestimating Philllllllllip Rivers. He isn't winning shit when it counts, home or away.

John Elway says hi. That was the narrative on Elway until the very end of his career, when Broncos won two SBs because.... get this... the team around him was better. Same was really true with Peyton Manning, who had the rep of playing poorly in the big game, until he won his 2nd Superbowl, even though Manning was a shadow of his former self, but Denver had an elite D. Is Joe Flacco a big game QB? How about Trent Dilfer? They won SBs.

Typical ignorant shortcut is to throw out the "not a big game player" label, particularly in football when you have 22 starters and a 53 man roster. Pat Mahomes is probably the best player in FB this year, but he lost his elite RB, and the Chief defense is wretched; so, if the Chiefs lose, will it be because Mahomes isn't ready to win the big game?

Guess the Charger wins at Pittsburgh and KC weren't big games. Chargers could win it all if the ball bounces the right way for them, but the "big game player" mantra is usually total crap in football. The Chargers are capable of beating anyone. If they lose in the playoffs, it's not going to be because Rivers can't win the big one.

They've essentially been on the road already for 14 games. Their home games are at best neutral site games and often away games. I like their chances of beating Pitt in Pitt. A few times in the AFC we've had wildcard teams reach the SB, and the Chargers have a great chance to do that because NE isn't as great as they've been, Pitt is an enigma, Hou has a bad OL, and KC just isn't the same now without Hunt and Wadkins.
